Statement on the passing of EOSC-A Director Sarah Jones

Dear Members and friends of the EOSC Association,

We are heartbroken to share with you the news of the passing of our fellow board member, Sarah Jones. Sarah poured her heart and soul into her work on behalf of GÉANT and EOSC-A, and was a passionate and indefatigable advocate for Open Science and, in particular, EOSC. Sarah had been a member of the EOSC Association Board of Directors since its founding, and had been elected to a second three-year term at last year’s General Assembly.

Sarah had many strengths that we all benefitted from, in particular her willingness to challenge received notions and her natural ability to engage with her fellow human beings both professionally and personally. She had the ability to quickly connect with colleagues around the globe, and those connections frequently proved lasting and meaningful. Sarah championed many humanistic causes, but chief among them was her daily dedication to the heartfelt belief that the dogged pursuit of Open Science would truly make the world a healthier, more humane, and more sustainable place by enabling the best that science has to offer.

We will miss her dearly, and extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends and colleagues.
