EOSC-related Horizon Europe projects coordination meeting, September 2022, Brussels

A number of European projects are running in direct support of the implementation of EOSC, while a number of others are running adjacently. Here we present the Horizon Europe projects that are contributing to the development and deployment of the European Open Science Cloud.

The EOSC Association, together with the European Commission, has developed the "Vademecum: A Handbook for Effective Collaboration within the EOSC co-programmed Partnership" as a tool to coordinate the European projects with the goals and activities of the Partnership.

At the heart of the proposal workflows will integrate with the EOSC-Core. Adoption, development and implementation of technologies to interoperate across services, will allow researchers to produce high-quality FAIR data, available to all in EOSC. Communities across disciplines -- Life Sciences, Climate and Biodiversity, Astrophysics, Materials science -- will demonstrate the bridge from EOSC's technical services to scientific analysis.

FAIR EArth Sciences & Environment services

Start date: 1 September 2022
End date: 31 August 2025

FAIR-EASE focuses on opening gateways for the earth and environmental sciences which require a large volume of data from sources such as satellite, in-situ observations, models, and even omics experiments. Earth system domains are interconnected, but the present digital architecture is based essentially on distributed and domain-dependent data repositories inducing real difficulties for integrated uses of all the environmental data. This creates barriers for several studies with large societal impacts, such as climate change, agriculture and food, human safety and health. To go beyond this state-of-the-art, the overall objective of FAIR-EASE is to customize and operate distributed and integrated services for observation and modelling of the Earth system, environment and biodiversity by improving their different components implemented in close cooperation with user-communities, the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) and research infrastructures in their design and sustainable availability.

End date: 31 May 2025

FAIR-IMPACT will identify practices, policies, tools and technical specifications to guide researchers, repository managers, research performing organisations, policy makers and citizen scientists towards a FAIR data management cycle. The focus will be on persistent identifiers (PIDs), metadata, ontologies, metrics, certification and interoperability, starting with real-life use cases on social sciences and humanities, the photon and neutron sciences, life sciences and agri-food and environmental sciences.

Next Generation Research Assessment to Promote Open Science

Start date: 1 January 2023
End date: 31 December 2025

GraspOS aims to build and operate a data infrastructure to support the policy reforms and pave the way towards a responsible research assessment system that embeds OS practices and accelerates its adoption in Europe. GraspOS will focus on extending the EOSC ecosystem with tools and services that will facilitate monitoring the use and uptake of various types of research services and outputs (publications, datasets, software) and will catalyse the implementation of policy-level rewards to foster OS practices. These tools and services will build upon multiple sources of metric data (e.g. OpenCitations, Scholexplorer) including capabilities offered by the EOSC Core.
