This course provides an introduction to the operational remit of the EOSC Nodes. In particular, course participants can expect to gain a basic understanding of the onboarding policies of selected EOSC Nodes, and how Nodes support the visibility and discoverability of services within the broader Federation landscape.
Course summary
This course provides an introduction, mainly intended for resource providers, to the operational remit of the EOSC Nodes. In particular, course participants can expect to:
- Gain a basic understanding of the onboarding policies of select EOSC Nodes, and how Nodes support the visibility and discoverability of services within the broader Federation landscape
- Learn how to integrate catalogues and resources into select Nodes, by way of example onboarding use cases
- Learn about the availability and reuse of services across Nodes, as well as
- Understand how the current operational framework aligns with the evolving EOSC Federation governance model
After completing the course, participants should understand and be able to implement the steps necessary for onboarding a service or resource into select EOSC Nodes. The course is organized in various models, offering general guidance as well as in-depth case studies, and specifically targets beneficiaries of the EOSC Gravity Inter-project Calls, EOSC-related projects, OA Expert Groups, EOSC-A Task Forces, as well as anyone else wanting to offer their services via the EOSC Federation.
After completing the course, participants will be able to:
- Describe the offerings of the various EOSC Nodes
- Describe the Nodes’ current onboarding policies
- Describe and describe how to integrate catalogues and resources into the current EOSC Nodes (including the EOSC EU Node), ensuring visibility and discoverability within the broader EOSC Federation landscape
- Describe the relationship between the EOSC EU Node and other EOSC nodes, as well as
- Describe how the current operational framework aligns with the evolving EOSC Federation governance model
Modules of this course
Module 1: Onboarding services to EOSC Nodes
30 Minutes
This module is intended to give a roundabout introduction to the topic; participants should be able to explain what it means to onboard a service to a Node, as well as the necessary steps, based on interviews with Node representatives. Given that onboarding policies can be expected to differ across Nodes, this is intended to give a high-level overview (no hands-on information).
Module 2: EOSC Nodes Onboarding Policies
60 Minutes
This module is intended to offer a basic introduction to the remit of onboarding policies developed by EOSC Nodes. This is achieved via a online session format, where participants can prepare questions based on closely reading the policy documents upfront. Participants should gain a basic understanding of the content of onboarding policies (what is their remit, what do they govern and how, what provisions do the Nodes make for onboarding services).
Module 3: Integration of catalogues and resources into select Nodes
This module is intended to provide a hands-on introduction to the steps necessary for onboarding services. It proceeds via in-depth interviews with Node representatives, who detail challenges and obstacles encountered. These interviews can be regarded as case studies for service onboarding; participants should be able to detail the steps necessary for onboarding services, as well as possible obstacles and how others have overcome them.
Module 4: Onboarding services to EOSC Nodes – A step-by-step guide
Interactive online session to offer a step-by-step guide, with the possibility for discussion and questions.
