BRUSSELS—On 30 October 2026, the European Commission announced the winner of the 2026 EOSC EU Node framework procurement, awarding the contract to the Open Science Commons Consortium, coordinated by Athena Research and Innovation Center (Athena RC).

The Consortium brings together five partners: Athena Research and Innovation Center (Athena RC), Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Centre (PCSS), GÉANT Vereniging, OpenAIRE AMKE and Netcompany S.A., as well as six identified subcontractors: Safespring AB, NORDUnet A/S, Danish e-infrastructure Consortium (DeiC), GRNET S.A., OpenCloud GmbH and Stichting EGI, coordinated by Athena RC as the lead partner. The four-year framework will ensure the continued operation, maintenance, development and support of the EOSC EU Node through 2030, subject to available funding.
For the EOSC Federation this represents an important step towards long-term operational sustainability and continued technical development. The procurement will support the evolving needs of the Federation, its Nodes and research communities, enabling further improvements to shared services and federating capabilities. Following a formal kick-off meeting, the new consortium is expected to take over services, with baseline operations scheduled to begin on 14 February 2027, helping ensure continuity as the Federation expands and strengthens access to research data, tools and services across Europe.
