EOSC Federation’s MoU signals the start of a unified European research data space

BRUSSELS — An article published by Science|Business on 6 January 2026 highlights the collaboration of the first wave of 14 EOSC Nodes and the initiation of the EOSC Federation’s Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in November 2025, describing it as the “start of a unified European research data space”.

The MoU was signed by EOSC Association President Klaus Tochtermann on 03 November 2025 at the EOSC Symposium in Brussels. Since then, ten candidate EOSC Nodes have signed the memorandum, bringing it into force by surpassing the required minimum of five signatures.

By signing the MoU with EOSC-A, each candidate EOSC Node formally commits to collaboration on service integration and interoperability within the EOSC Federation. Further signatures are expected in the coming period.
