Return to Nodes overview

The GÉANT EOSC Node offers specialist high-scale network, security, and trust and identity services to the wider research community, while lowering barriers for NRENs and selected cloud providers to participate in the EOSC Federation.

Hosted on the GÉANT Digital Research Environment, the Node provides a compliant deployment blueprint for EOSC Nodes and strengthens the link between EOSC and EuroHPC through high-bandwidth networking and federated AAI.

Key objective:

To make specialist network, security and trust and identity services available to the broader EOSC community, to provide a gateway to NRENs and selected OCRE cloud providers and to offer through MyAccessID the technical solution for the AAI EOSC Federating Capability.

Science areas: Connecting Data, Computing and Digital Research Infrastructures, Research networking, Trust and identity, Cybersecurity, Cloud services, Cross-disciplinary research support

The GÉANT EOSC Node strengthens the technical foundation of EOSC by enabling secure, high-performance, cross-border access to research services and cloud resources.

FAIR data

GÉANT is primarily a service and infrastructure Node rather than a thematic data provider, and it enables FAIR data use by providing trusted access, networking, security, cloud procurement and interoperability services for data-intensive research workflows.

Scientific use cases

Seamless access between EOSC Federation and EuroHPC resources

The aim of this use case is to showcase the synergies between the EOSC Federation and EuroHPC through the EuroHPC Federation Platform (EFP).

In this use case GÉANT will collaborate with other Nodes to demonstrate a federated and trusted identity domain providing seamless access between services and resources offered through EOSC Nodes and EuroHPC HPC computing sites. In this use case we plan to run a workflow, moving data from an EOSC Node to an EuroHPC HPC system, process the data on the EuroHPC HPC system generating output, storing this output on a EFSS service and analyse the research output through a Jupyter notebook provisioned through an EOSC Node.

Other scientific use cases

  1. AAI EOSC Federating Capability
  2. NREN gateway for services and resources
