OA1: Persistent Identifiers

PIDs are a cross-cutting topic for Research Data Infrastructures (and for other EOSC-A Task Forces) and require an advisory body with a mandate to agree on standards and assess compliance.

Building on the work of the former EOSC-A Task Force on PIDs, this Expert Group will continue advancing PID work and will serve as a forum for collaboration with PID providers. The group will update PID policy to outline requirements for new projects, foster community consensus on APIs and identifier metadata standardization, and advocate for the extension and reuse of existing PIDs rather than the creation of new systems. This approach emphasizes building a robust ecosystem of services that leverages current PID systems.

To maximize the potential of PID graphs, the group will also investigate the federation of research graphs and federated query capabilities, define use cases that highlight their value, and support the development of federated national and regional Scholarly Knowledge Graphs (SKGs) and PID Graphs, with contributions to initiatives like the Research Data Alliance (RDA).
