Individuals, organisations and initiatives are invited to the EOSC Symposium 2025 to showcase ideas and solutions demonstrating how EOSC can advance research in Europe.
Guidelines and criteria
Applications will be evaluated by the EOSC Symposium Programme Committee through a peer-review process. The Programme Committee aims to select a pool of lightning talks that guarantee inclusivity and broad representation of the EOSC community in terms of geography, gender, discipline and topical balance.
All selected applicants will be guaranteed priority registration for the Symposium, however the participation fees will not be waived.
The format
- Total time available for showcasing your ideas: 5 minutes.
- Formats allowed: presentation (max 3 uncluttered slides) or video with live commentary (max 4 minutes pre-recorded video + commentary).
- Lightning talks must be given in-person at the EOSC Symposium 2025 in Brussels (one speaker only, remote participants are not eligible). In total 10 lightning talks will be featured. Please note that participation in the EOSC Symposium includes a registration fee that will not be waived for the selected lightning talk presenters, though presenters will be granted priority registration.
- Only lightning talks showcasing the added value of EOSC will be eligible.
- The presentation or video must address before/after scenarios to showcase how EOSC has contributed to solving or advancing the solution to a research challenge.
- Demos (video + live commentary) will be given preference over talks.
Topics in scope
- How the EOSC Federation (i.e., the EOSC EU Node and the 13 candidate EOSC Nodes) can advance research, empower researchers and open new opportunities for users in Europe.
- How implementation of the FAIR principles for cross-disciplinary research has contributed to addressing societal, economic, scientific and environmental challenges.
- How sharing and reusing FAIR data outside traditional disciplines has enabled scientific discoveries and innovation.
How to apply
Applicants are asked to submit a short proposal including:
- Information about the applicant.
- Title (max 60 characters): to be used as title of the lightning talk in the EOSC Symposium programme, if selected.
- Abstract (max 400 words): describe the focus of the lightning talk/demo. Applications that do not describe the added value for EOSC according to the above guidelines will be rejected.
- Format: presentation or video with live commentary.
- Confirmation of the applicant’s availability to participate in-person between 03-05 November 2025, and consent to be photographed and video-recorded during the event.
