Rewards and recognition framework for software/data stewards

Q4 2025
  • Skills, training, rewards, recognition
  • Result description

EVERSE is developing a rewards and recognition framework for software engineers based on the approach employed for data stewards. The framework is built on the principles of the EOSC Skills and Training Working Group with a focus on research software, thus leading to the creation of “software stewards”. The recognition and rewards system for research software engineers pushed forward by EVERSE will reflect the differences between excellence of research data and research software.

    Problem addressed

The principles for research data management/stewardship and research software management/stewardship are very different, which means that the data steward role cannot be simply transposed for research software (including practices, governance, and standards).

    Who can use the result

    software engineers

    Timeline

The first version of the framework is expected by mid-2025, but some components are already in place (communities, active contributors).
