Expanding and deepening the EOSC Federation: popular webinar offers preview of HE 2027 co-fund call

The EOSC Association hosted a webinar on Thursday, 25 June, exploring the 2027 Horizon Europe co-fund action call, “Expanding and deepening the EOSC Federation (EOSC Partnership)”.

The meeting drew 114 participants from across the EOSC community, who were informed on the objectives of the HORIZON-INFRA-2027-01-EOSC-01 call, its co-fund mechanism, and the opportunities the call introduces for funding agencies, research-performing organisations, service providers and other organisations who wish to contribute to the development of the EOSC Federation.

The webinar was moderated by EOSC-A President Klaus Tochtermann and featured presentations from Pantelis Tziveloglou (slides) of the Open Science and Research Infrastructures unit of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Research and Innovation (DG RTD), providing insight on the types of activities that can be supported by the call, the expected timelines, and the potential benefits of participation; and Volker Beckmann (slides), former co-chair of the EOSC Steering Board and current adviser for the implementation of EOSC for the French Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Space, who presented a perspective on national approaches to participating in the call.

The presentations were followed by open Q&As, and the webinar closed with a guided Mentimeter session moderated by current EOSC Steering Board Co-Chair Aneta Pazik-Aybar, head of the Open Science Team at Poland’s National Science Centre (NCN).

The call, planned to open on 09 March 2027, aims to strengthen the EOSC Federation by supporting the establishment of EOSC Nodes, enabling the onboarding of state-of-the-art digital services, and advancing the alignment of FAIR scientific data and services across Europe.

With a total investment of up to €80 million, jointly funded by the European Commission and participating national funding agencies, the action represents a major opportunity to accelerate the development and uptake of EOSC services and infrastructure across Europe.
