On 9 July 2025 (Time: 10:30 – 15:00), the INSPIRING ERA project will host an in-person exchange dedicated to one of the most dynamic and debated areas in research policy today: EU Copyright Rules and Data Access Rights for Research in the Age of AI. The event will take place at the historic Bibliothèque Polonaise de Paris, bringing together leading voices from across Europe’s research, legal, and policy communities.

Why Attend?

The rapid advance of artificial intelligence and data-driven research has brought EU copyright and data legislation into sharp focus. Researchers, policymakers, legal experts, and open science professionals face both opportunities and challenges as they navigate new requirements for data sharing and reuse. This INSPIRING ERA Exchange aims to:

•    Clarify the impact of EU copyright and data legislation on research and AI

•    Identify barriers and solutions for legal data sharing and reuse

•    Develop policy recommendations to foster knowledge circulation and innovation across Europe

Programme Highlights:

•    Open Science, Copyright and data legislative framework: Bertil EGGER BECK – DG RTD, EC;

•    Digital Service Act – Data access rights for researchers: DG CNECT (TBC);

•    Research exceptions and Data Access Rights for research of the EU framework: Kacper SZKALEJ – University of Amsterdam;

•    Navigating Legal Requirements from the Researcher’s Perspective: Thomas MARGONI – KU Leuven;

•    General AI models in service of Open Science: Teresa NOBRE – COMMUNIA association;

•    Research Security as a critical factor for Knowledge Valorisation – the Synergy Framework: Julia PRIESS-BUCHHEIT – IP4OS, Kiel University.
