EOSC is featured in a new report from the European Parliamentary Research Service (EPRS), Open science and the effects of Generative Artificial Intelligence in scientific exchange, as part of a possible future vision for trustworthy, AI-enabled open science in Europe.
The report explores how generative AI is transforming scientific exchange and presents a scenario in which EOSC is coordinated with research integrity standards, measures to promote equitable access, science-for-policy capacities and responsible AI practices.
Rather than assessing EOSC’s current performance, the report uses this scenario to illustrate how infrastructure, governance and institutional coordination could help scientific exchange remain open and reliable as AI transforms research. It stresses that openness alone is not enough: research outputs must also be traceable, verifiable and reusable.
The report also warns that uneven implementation across European countries and institutions could lead to fragmentation and make collaboration more difficult. Its broader message is that the future of open science in the age of AI will depend not only on infrastructure, but also on effective governance, adequate institutional capacity and coordinated action across Europe. In this context, EOSC is presented as one element of a wider European effort to build a more trustworthy and interoperable research ecosystem.
