The EOSC Academy serves as an initiative for capacity building, knowledge exchange, and mutual learning within the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) ecosystem.
It consolidates and amplifies knowledge emerging from EOSC-related projects, Task Forces, Opportunity Area Expert Groups, national and institutional initiatives, and other contributions from experts to enhance and support the EOSC Federation, including the enrolment of Nodes. The primary purpose of the Academy is to accelerate the development of the EOSC Federation by strengthening shared understanding and promoting the coherent implementation of the EOSC Federation model throughout the ecosystem.
Who is the Academy for?
The EOSC Academy engages all actors involved or interested in the EOSC Federation, acknowledging their diverse roles and perspectives in building and sustaining the EOSC ecosystem. It aims to provide learning opportunities and capacity-building support tailored to different stakeholder groups.
EOSC Academy target stakeholders
- EOSC Nodes (current and candidate, future Nodes)
- Grantees of the EOSC Gravity cascading grants
- EOSC Task Forces and Opportunity Area Expert Groups
- EOSC-related projects
- Organisations, including RIs, wanting to join the EOSC Federation
Discover the tracks
The Academy’s content is organized around two tracks, Building and operating EOSC Nodes and Participating in the EOSC Federation. These address key topics that reflect the journey organisations undertake when joining the EOSC Federation, from initial understanding through to operational participation.
This track addresses how Nodes participate in and contribute to the Federation as a whole, covering Federation structures, collaborative mechanisms, and shared capabilities.
Course 1: Explaining the EOSC Federation
Course overview
This course introduces the EOSC Federation, explaining its purpose, governance structure, the role of Nodes and their interconnection, and presents the current status of development. It also explores key achievements, challenges, and lessons learned from the Federation’s evolution. The online session will be complemented by training materials based on the Federation Handbook, videos as well as insights and lessons learned to date.
Course 2: Applying the EOSC Federation Handbook
Course overview
The EOSC Federation Handbook is a practical guide for facility managers, resource providers, and technical staff implementing the EOSC Federation. This course will explain how to apply the Federation Handbook with the help of real-world Node implementations. It will provide guidance on how to build Nodes and join the Federation. The course targets organizations preparing, or are in the start-up phase, to build Nodes and EOSC community members seeking deeper understanding of Federation processes.
Course 3: Use Cases for the EOSC Federation
Course overview
This course explores how to design, implement, and communicate scientific use cases within the EOSC Federation. Combining methodology with real-world examples from first-wave nodes, it highlights challenges, solutions, and lessons learned. Through practical case studies and expert insights, participants gain the skills needed to develop impactful cross-node use cases and demonstrate the value of federated research infrastructure.
Course 7: The EOSC AAI explained
Course overview
The aim of this course is to provide a general introduction to the EOSC Authentication and Authorization Infrastructure (AAI), explaining its purpose, architectural structure, the implied underlying protocols, the role of Nodes and their interconnection, and presenting the current stage of development and adoption.
