Webinar: The Barcelona Declaration: Why Open Research Information Matters

The Barcelona Declaration on Open Research Information was published in April 2024 and aims to establish open research information as the standard in the scientific community. While commercial providers often exclusively control access to metadata, the Barcelona Declaration outlines the path to an independent and transparent research infrastructure with open research information, including metadata on publications, research projects, and other research-relevant information.

Organized by the Research+Data Cluster, this webinar will examine the concrete implications of such a shift for the Austrian research community. With a distinguished international panel, we will explore what the path to open research information can look like in practice. Specifically, the following questions will be addressed:

Implementation: What does it mean for a research institution to sign the Barcelona Declaration? What processes need to be initiated?

Benefit: What immediate strategic and operational benefits (e.g., data sovereignty, visibility) does signing the declaration bring to the institution?

Who is already using open research information, and if so, how? How can we, as a community, sustainably support these infrastructures?
