Good practice
The ETH RDM Summer School provides doctoral students, postdocs, and data management staff with a comprehensive overview of research data management (RDM) principles and their practical application. Participants are introduced to relevant tools, emphasising resources and services available at ETH Zürich. The programme is based on the internationally recognised FAIR Data principles, providing valuable knowledge for early-career scientists.
Problem addressed
Effective research data management is essential for ensuring the integrity, reproducibility, and accessibility of scientific research. However, many early-career scientists and data management staff lack comprehensive training in RDM principles and practices. This gap can lead to challenges in organising, storing, and sharing research data, which are critical for meeting the requirements of funding agencies and contributing to the broader scientific community’s goals, such as the EOSC vision. The ETH RDM Summer School addresses these challenges by providing participants with the knowledge and tools needed to implement robust RDM practices, thereby enhancing the quality and impact of their research.
Added value
Broadening the application of RDM and FAIR principles, particularly in reproducible scientific computing and data analysis.
Enhancing skills of early-career scientists to comply with the data management and FAIR Data planning requirements of research funders and ETH.
Promoting secure handling of confidential and strictly confidential research data to facilitate broader collaboration.
