EOSC-A welcomes new Members and Observers

Three new Members and one new Observer were unanimously voted into the EOSC Association at its 7th General Assembly on 21 November 2023.

The EOSC Association welcomes Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin, the European Southern Observatory and Italy’s Trust-IT as its newest Members, and Slovenia’s Institute of Information Science as an Observer.

The University of Saints Cyril and Methodius in Skopje, Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering, has been appointed the EOSC-A Mandated Organisation for the Republic of North Macedonia by its ministry.

Together with resignations and moves between membership and observership, GA#7 brings the total number of Members to 162 and Observers to 88, for a total delegation of 250 organisations.


New Members

Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin für Materialien und Energie GmbH (HZB)

The Helmholtz Zentrum Berlin für Materialien und Energie (HZB) as a publicly funded research institution and member of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres (HGF), operates the synchrotron radiation source BESSYII as research infrastructure, as well as modern laboratories and instruments for the investigation of structures and processes in materials, used by numerous scientists from all over the world. In addition, HZB focuses on energy-material research and the further development of accelerator facilities.

European Organisation for Astronomical Research in the Southern Hemisphere (ESO)

The European Southern Observatory (ESO) is the pre-eminent intergovernmental science and technology organisation in astronomy. It carries out an ambitious programme focused on the design, construction, and operation of powerful ground-based observing facilities for astronomy, to enable important scientific discoveries. ESO also plays a leading role in promoting and organising cooperation in astronomical research.

New Observer

Institute informacijskih znanosti, Maribor (IZUM)

The Institute of Information Science is a public institution established by the Government of the Republic of Slovenia as an information infrastructural service for Slovenian science, culture, and education. The activities of IZUM are mainly in the development and operation of the COBISS system and services, which represents the core of the library information system in Slovenia, and of library information systems in some other countries linked to the COBISS.net network.

New Mandated Organisation

University Ss Cyril and Methodius in Skopje, Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering (FCSE, UKIM)

The Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering (FCSE) is the result of the unification of the two largest institutions in informatics and computer technologies in Macedonia – the Institute of Informatics (II) at Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and the Institute of Computer Technics and Informatics at Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technologies (ICTI).
In 2011 the institutes merged to form the strongest and most advanced scientific research and educational institution in Macedonia in the field of informatics – the Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering (FCSE).
