INGV constitutes the main permanent scientific forum in the Earth Sciences in Italy. Its mission includes scientific and technological research in seismology, volcanology, and environmental science, monitoring of geophysical phenomena, and third mission activities. INGV cooperates with universities and other national and international public and private institutions and provides services for the Civil Defence Department and the Ministry of Economic Development.
