Enriched EOSC Interoperability Framework

Q3 2025
  • EOSC interoperability
  • Result description

The enhanced EOSC Interoperability Framework is part of the EOSC Execution Framework, a new core service that will facilitate the composition of services and resources, as well as the execution of data analysis in general services in the EOSC Federation. The enhanced EOSC Interoperability Framework will enrich the Interoperability Guidelines (IG) with additional metadata that describe how a service can be accessed by machines, allowing developers and system integrators to learn how to access a service dynamically, along with other details about how to use it contained in the IG. This will improve the machine (i.e. automated) composability of resources since it will be possible to integrate services with other services or resources without the need of interaction with the provider.

    Problem addressed

Currently, the Interoperability Guidelines of services or applications are documents (i.e. text files) that are not machine-actionable.

    Who can use the result

The first target is the EOSC EU Node. The enhanced EOSC Interoperability Framework is expected to become part of the technical specifications of the next phase of the EOSC EU Node. A second (more important) target are communities setting up EOSC Nodes that may use the improved Interoperability Guidelines to describe the resources they share with the EOSC Federation through other EOSC Nodes.

    Timeline

The first release is planned for September 2025, and the final release towards the end of the project (March 2027). How to use the result

It is expected that the result of EOSC Beyond will become part of the technical specification of the next phase of the EOSC EU node. The other paths to exploitation are formed by the pilots in EOSC Beyond, and by other communities that may reuse technologies developed in EOSC Beyond to set up other EOSC Nodes.
