SUMMARY:Applying the EOSC Federation Handbook / Online session 3 (EOSC Academy Course 2)
DESCRIPTION:The EOSC Federation Handbook is a practical guide for facility managers\, resource providers\, and technical staff implementing the EOSC Federation. This course will explain how to apply the Federation Handbook with the help of real-world Node implementations. It will provide guidance on how to build Nodes and join the Federation. The course targets organizations preparing\, or are in the start-up phase to build Nodes and EOSC community members seeking deeper understanding of Federation processes. \n\n\n\n\nSpecific goals of the course: \n\nExplain what readers of the Handbook can expect to learn from the Handbook.\nClarify what can and cannot be found in the Handbook.\nPresent how the Handbook requirements were applied by specific Nodes.\nLearn how to Apply the building of a Node and join the Federation.\nConvey the idea of the Handbook as a community effort (led and carried out by the community)\, that it is in continuous evolution\, and that feedback is welcome and desired (stressing the channels to do that would be good)\n\nThe course targets the beneficiaries of the Gravity Preparatory and Interproject Calls who are preparing to build a Node as well as organisations and experts within the EOSC community who wish to deepen their understanding of the Federation and the processes supporting its development. \nTo ensure the course is as interactive as possible the strategy is to use a “flipped classroom” approach. The goal is to encourage the audience to engage with the EOSC Federation Handbook (aka Handbook) before the session\, so the online sessions can focus on high-level explanation and answering their specific questions. \nBy the end of this course\, the learner will:\n\n\nHave detailed knowledge of the Handbook:\nUnderstand the significance of the Handbook;\nBe able to reflect on how to apply it to their own needs;\nBe able to formulate and answer questions on the process of becoming a node.

SUMMARY:Use Cases for the EOSC Federation (EOSC Academy Course 3)
DESCRIPTION:This course introduces participants to the design\, implementation\, and communication of scientific use cases within the EOSC Federation. It will comprise three parts: \n\nModule 1 will present a methodology for creating scientific use cases\, and their rationale of demonstrating the usefulness of the EOSC Federation; this will also include an introduction to expected practical and organizational challenges;\nModule 2 will draw heavily on practical experience from first-wave EOSC nodes of real examples of node-to-node collaborations implemented across the federation\, featuring interviews with Node representatives to transport a clear understanding of the challenges/obstacles faced when establishing scientific use cases\, and how current Nodes have overcome them; this part will be expanded as more scientific use cases are implemented in the EOSC Federation (e.g.\, by the EOSC Gravity Cascading Grants);\nModule 3 will present lessons learned\, including step-by-step guidance for implementing scientific use cases in the EOSC Federation.\n\nThe online session targets candidate EOSC nodes from the next waves as well as beneficiaries of the Gravity Grant Calls\, both Interproject and Preparatory Grants. Through practice-based case studies and practical guidance\, the course aims to facilitate and accelerate the development of new cross-node scientific use cases that demonstrate the value of the EOSC Federation. \nParticipants will learn from existing successful and\, in some cases\, unsuccessful use cases\, explore the processes behind their creation\, and understand the technical\, organisational\, and communication challenges encountered during their implementation. \nBy the end of this course\, participants will:\n\n\nUnderstand how the EOSC Federation’s federating capabilities can support and enable novel\, cross-disciplinary and/or cross-border scientific use cases\nUnderstand the concept and strategic role of scientific use cases in the EOSC Federation\nLearn the process of designing and implementing node-to-node use cases\, based on lessons learned from first-wave EOSC nodes\nExplore examples of (un)successful use cases in the EOSC Federation\n\n\nPresenters (for online session)\n\n\n\n\n\nBeatriz Serrano-Solano (European Molecular Biology Laboratory)\nSara Pittonet Gaiarin (Trust-IT Services)\nTibor Simko (CERN)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Webinar on Horizon Europe co-fund action call: Expanding and deepening the EOSC Federation
DESCRIPTION:On 25 June 2026 at 14:00 CEST\, EOSC-A will host a webinar exploring the HORIZON-INFRA-2027-01-EOSC-01 co-fund action call. \nDuring the webinar\, representatives of Directorate-General for Research and Innovation (DG RTD) webinar will present the objectives of the HORIZON-INFRA-2027-01-EOSC-01 call\, explain the co-fund mechanism\, and discuss the opportunities it offers for funding agencies\, research performing organisations\, service providers and other organisations who wish to contribute to the development of the EOSC Federation. \nParticipants will gain insights into the types of activities that can be supported\, the expected timelines\, and the potential benefits of participation once the action is established. The webinar will also provide an opportunity to discuss national approaches to participation\, share community perspectives\, and ask questions during an interactive Q&A session. \nInterested participants can register here no later than 24 June 2026 (23:59 CEST).

SUMMARY:The EOSC AAI Explained ( EOSC Academy course 7)
DESCRIPTION:The course targets primarily the node AAI operators and architects\, in need of plugging their nodes’ AAI infrastructure to the EOSC AAI to effectively integrate their nodes in the EOSC Federation\, belonging to the first\, second and possibly subsequent new waves of enrolment of EOSC nodes. \nIt is also addressed to the grantees of the Gravity Preparatory and Interproject Calls as well as organisations and experts within the EOSC community who wish to learn more about and deepen their understanding of the EOSC AAI Infrastructure and implied processes\, and the required steps to join the AAI federated capability of the EOSC Federation. \nAAI is by far the first and most important Federating Capability enabling the actual deployment and implementation of the EOSC Federation. \nPrevious knowledge of the EOSC is strongly recommended\, including participation in Course “Explaining the EOSC Federation” and Course “Applying the EOSC Federation Handbook“. Prerequisites for this course include knowledge of the objectives\, vision\, and context of the EOSC; an understanding of the general structure of the EOSC in terms of services and capabilities; and mastery of key EOSC terms (e.g.\, core\, exchange\, resource).\nBy the end of this course\, the learner will be able to:\n\n\nUnderstand the goals of the EOSC AAI infrastructure;\nKnow what the underlying basic AAI protocols implied are\, and how they are used by the EOSC AAI;\nUnderstand the basics and the structure of the MyAccessID service\, which is the fundamental component\, playing the central hub and spoke role at the core of the EOSC AAI;\nUnderstand that the supported AAI workflows are\, and what is implied for EOSC Users and for EOSC Node AAI owners\, managers and operators;\nKnow what the minimal requirements are for your AAI infrastructure to be able to join the EOSC Federation;\nUnderstand practical steps are required to join the EOSC Federation AAI.\n\n\n
