SUMMARY:Austrian-Slovenian HPC Meeting 2026 – ASHPC26
DESCRIPTION:ASHPC26 will continue the tradition of the annual Austrian HPC Meetings (2015–2020) and the Austrian-Slovenian HPC Meetings (2021–2025) bringing together users and providers of large-scale computing resources for both academic and non-academic research and development. \nASHPC26 will focus on various aspects of High-Performance Computing (HPC) and provides a great opportunity to discuss HPC-related topics and present your latest results. It will also provide an overview and update on the rapidly improving AI and HPC landscape available to European researchers and serve as a platform for exchanging experiences related to the usage and operation of large-scale computing resources and the challenges encountered. \nCentral European NCCs Workgroup Meeting – CE-NCCs-WG\, 7 April 2026\nOn Tuesday\, 7 April 2026\, in the afternoon preceding ASHPC26\, there will be a Central European NCCs Workgroup Meeting (for NCC / EuroCC 3 staff only) where the National Competence Centres (NCCs) address their most challenging topics and further regional collaboration.

SUMMARY:Open Science Retreat
DESCRIPTION:The Open Science Retreat Global Edition is a week full of scientific discussions and reflections\, getting work done\, making new friends and resetting. \nThe Retreat follows an unconference model. Except for the plenary sessions\, all activities are optional. \nThis year\, we will host one session of lightning talks for you to present your research in. We are aware that it can be difficult to attend an event with an unconventional agenda and therefore would like to offer a slot that fulfills more traditional academic criteria. Please submit an abstract if you want to be part of the lightning talks session. \nSubmitting an abstract is absolutely not mandatory for your application! \n

SUMMARY:Research Software Quality Across Continents
DESCRIPTION:Software created to address the needs of researchers is playing an increasingly important role in many scientific domains\, in industry and is having a broader impact. As a result researchers and engineers seek to improve their research software’s quality\, learn new skills and also seek recognition for their work. \nThe goal of this event is to share experience across continents on the challenges faced in creating research software and the improving its quality\, and to foster both knowledge-sharing and collaboration. \nThe EVERSE project is pooling the knowledge of best practices for research software quality\, initially targeting diverse research communities initially in Europe.  It seeks to identify the tools\, metrics and training available in related topics.  Its target is to  work towards having it valued as a first-level contribution to research. \nOrganised by the EVERSE project\, the University of Cape Town’s e-Research Center and the Science for Africa Foundation.

SUMMARY:Teaching Reproducibility for Professional Development and Intellectual Growth
DESCRIPTION:ZBW would like to cordially invite you to another Open Science Education Coffee Lecture. This time\, the focus will be on how reproducibility can be taught in economics and what significance it holds for research\, professional qualifications and career development. \nTeaching Reproducibility for Professional Development and Intellectual Growth \nReproducibility has long been more than just a methodological detail. It plays an increasingly important role in the quality of academic work and in how research is taught and learned today. But how can this topic be effectively conveyed in teaching? \nIn this Open Science Education Coffee Lecture\, Richard Ball\, Professor of Economics at Haverford College (USA)\, will provide insights into the work of Project TIER\, which he has helped shape for many years. As a member of the Executive Committee\, he is one of the individuals who help shape the project’s content and strategy. His talk is therefore not only an introduction to the approaches of Project TIER\, but also an opportunity to explore the development of reproducible research from a perspective that closely integrates teaching and research. \nRichard Ball will demonstrate how transparency and reproducibility have been systematically integrated into the teaching of quantitative methods in the economic and social sciences since 2013. This involves specific teaching approaches\, methodological and professional skills\, and the question of how the standards of scientific research have changed in recent years – for example\, through data and code policies and the establishment of replication archives.

SUMMARY:The LUMEN Data Mesh: Connecting Science Across Domains Through Community-owned Data
DESCRIPTION:A climate scientist discovers a sociology dataset that transforms her research. A mathematician finds Earth observation data that validates his model; these scenarios are exactly what the LUMEN Data Mesh is designed to make possible. \nToday\, scientific data is often locked within disciplinary silos. Communities maintain their own catalogues\, standards\, and vocabularies\, and for good reason: they know their data best. But what if they could make it discoverable by others\, without giving up control? \nThe LUMEN Data Mesh offers a decentralised alternative to traditional centralised platforms. Built around the concepts of data products and data contracts\, it lets each scientific community retain full ownership and governance of its data\, while making it findable and reusable across domains. This framework will serve as the technological cornerstone of the LUMEN Meta-Search Service. \nIn this webinar\, we’ll walk you through the architecture\, show you how it works with a concrete cross-domain scenario\, and (most importantly) we want to hear from you: what cross-domain data challenges do you face\, and how could a federated approach help? \nFormat: A 90-minute interactive webinar combining a 30-minute presentation\, a 15-minute live walkthrough of a cross-domain scenario\, and a 30-minute participatory session powered by Mentimeter. The webinar will be recorded and made available afterwards. \nWho is this for? Researchers\, data stewards\, and infrastructure managers who work across (or want to work across) disciplinary boundaries. Whether you’re in Social Sciences\, Mathematics\, Earth Systems\, or Molecular Dynamics\, if you’ve ever wished you could find data beyond your own community’s catalogue\, this webinar is for you. No prior knowledge of data mesh concepts needed.
