SUMMARY:Webinar: The Barcelona Declaration: Why Open Research Information Matters
DESCRIPTION:The Barcelona Declaration on Open Research Information was published in April 2024 and aims to establish open research information as the standard in the scientific community. While commercial providers often exclusively control access to metadata\, the Barcelona Declaration outlines the path to an independent and transparent research infrastructure with open research information\, including metadata on publications\, research projects\, and other research-relevant information. \nOrganized by the Research+Data Cluster\, this webinar will examine the concrete implications of such a shift for the Austrian research community. With a distinguished international panel\, we will explore what the path to open research information can look like in practice. Specifically\, the following questions will be addressed: \nImplementation: What does it mean for a research institution to sign the Barcelona Declaration? What processes need to be initiated? \nBenefit: What immediate strategic and operational benefits (e.g.\, data sovereignty\, visibility) does signing the declaration bring to the institution? \nWho is already using open research information\, and if so\, how? How can we\, as a community\, sustainably support these infrastructures?

SUMMARY:2nd OSCARS Annual General Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The meeting is planned as F2F only\, to enable as much direct contact between all participants as possible. Presentations are kept to an absolute minimum and are meant to deliver mainly the background information to enable meaningful discussions in the interactive Speed dating/poster and World Café sessions. \nDay 1 is intended as a consortium only day\, giving the WPs some space for internal work but also cross-WP sessions and group work in general (World Café session in the afternoon). We will start with the OSCARS WPs giving a short overview of activities in the first two years\, next steps planned and the input needed from the consortium and the funded projects. This will be followed by internal WP meetings and a first World Café session in the afternoon. \nFor day 2 and 3 we will be joined by one representative per funded project. \nThe second day will be used to get all participants up to speed on the new set of funded projects and the first outcomes of the 58 projects of the 1st round. All projects will be asked to prepare a poster in addition to the presentation. \nPresentations will have the same format as last year – 3 slides in 3 minutes. In between the 5 sessions\, we will have extended coffee breaks that will be used for “speed dating @ posters”. The day will close with a first World Café session identifying 3 common challenges followed by a quick reporting back round. \nProjects from the 1st round will be assigned to one session based on the main challenge they are addressing\, not the cluster they are related to\, the same as last year. \nThe third and final day will be all around working together on the common challenges identified the day before\, across consortium/WPs and funded projects from both rounds. The outcome should be a clear understanding of what those challenges are\, who is addressing them in which project and what next steps could be undertaken to tackle them. This should make sure that future work in the projects and the consortium/WPs addresses actual community needs\, but also hopefully lead to an enhanced cooperation across all participants\, and the development of first plans that secure the availability of project results beyond the projects’ lifetime. \nOBJECTIVES \n\nStrengthening the community through F2F interaction\nBring new funded projects into the community\nInitiate closer cooperation between the funded projects\nFurther develop cooperation between OSCARS WPs and funded projects\nIdentifying gaps/needs and activities for the 2nd half of the project\nTraining/support/mentoring\nPrioritise activities for the next year\n\nWHY ATTEND? \n\nTo get an overview of the activities carried out in the first two years of OSCARS implementation;\nTo outline next steps and collect the input needed from consortium and funded projects to keep up with OSCARS implementation;\nTo get an overview of the challenges tackled and activities planned in the OSCARS funded projects;\nTo network and enhance collaboration between OSCARS members and funded projects.\n\nWHO SHOULD ATTEND? \n\nOSCARS members\nRepresentatives of the OSCARS funded projects\nCONTACT\n\nFor any further question about the programme\, or any other organisational aspect\, please contact communication@oscars-project.eu \n

SUMMARY:FAIR Digital Objects Conference
DESCRIPTION:FAIR Digital Objects (FDO) are autonomous information units that virtually bind all information in a machine-actionable way that is required to make data FAIR\, including various kinds of metadata and globally unique and resolvable persistent identifiers (PIDs). \nFDOs provide a conceptual and implementation framework to develop scalable cross-disciplinary capabilities\, deal with increasing data volumes and their inherent complexity\, build tools that help increase trust in data\, create mechanisms to efficiently operate in the domain of scientific assertions\, and promote data interoperability. In addition\, FDOs play a foundational role in implementing widely accepted trust frameworks\, which are characterised by the STAP principles (Sovereignty\, Transparency\, Accountability\, Persistence). These principles underpin large-scale data exploration supported by AI. \nAbout the Conference\nFor the third time at this scale\, the FDO2026 Conference will bring together leading experts from science and industry\, technologists\, data stewards/managers\, and policymakers engaged in advancing FAIR Digital Objects (FDOs). The conference will feature a mix of invited presentations\, panels\, posters and demonstrators. It will be associated with a day of tutorials and a newcomer session. \nThe first conference focused on discussing and finalising basic specifications\, while the second conference concentrated on practical implementations of the FDO concept (testbeds\, demonstrators). This third conference will explore the relevance of the FDOs for turning to a global data landscape characterised by the STAP Principles\, tackle the integration of FDOs with data use control technologies (dataspace technologies) and examine the challenges and showcase successful demonstrations of interoperability between different implementations. \nThe conference will take place at the facilities of the Technische Universität Wien. Video interaction options and video recordings of all sessions and the training sessions will be provided. \nRegistration time line will be published soon
