SUMMARY:EOSC EDEN seminar: Exploring core preservation processes
DESCRIPTION:The EOSC EDEN project\, an EU-funded initiative\, is launching its webinar series to share key results and insights from its work on advancing digital preservation strategies across Europe. At the heart of EOSC EDEN lies the ambition to develop a comprehensive framework for identifying research data that should be prioritised for long-term digital preservation at both European and national levels. \nIn this first seminar\, we will present one of the project’s major achievements — the Core Preservation Processes (CPPs). CPPs define the essential actions that every Trustworthy Digital Archive (TDA) should perform\, either directly or in collaboration with associated partners or services\, to effectively carry out its digital preservation mission as outlined in its preservation policy. \nA detailed paper on the CPPs has been published in the EOSC EDEN Zenodo Community. You can give feedback or ask questions about the CPPs by engaging in the discussion on Github or via the webform on the project website.

It strengthens European data sovereignty by establishing common standards and secure\, transparent conditions for the exchange of research data. With the further expansion of the EOSC Federation\, new opportunities are emerging for institutions to participate and take advantage of corresponding funding opportunities. \nTo provide information about this\, the ZBW – Leibniz-Informationszentrum Wirtschaft / ZBW – Leibniz Information Centre for Economics organises its 7th EOSC Coffee Lecture on Tuesday\, 02 December 2025\, from 15:00 to 16:00.   This EOSC Coffee Lecture will focus on the following topics: \n▪️ Report from the EOSC Symposium 2025 in Brussels \n▪️ Update on the status of the EOSC Federation \n▪️ Funding opportunities for prospective future EOSC Node \n▪️ Funding opportunities for onboarding resources (services/repositories) \nThe one-hour webinar (30-min presentation\, 30-min Q&A) will be led by Prof. Dr Klaus Tochtermann\, President of the EOSC Association and member of the NFDI Senate involved in several National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) consortia. \nThe #EOSC Coffee Lectures are aimed at anyone dealing with #research #data in their scientific work or involved in the implementation and operation of research data infrastructures. \n▪️ Background information: https://lnkd.in/dvTVRYcZ \n▪️ Recordings of previous EOSC Coffee Lectures: https://lnkd.in/ditA5M44

SUMMARY:AI for digital repositories: opportunities and challenges
DESCRIPTION:Recent developments in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Large Language Models (LLM) in particular have disrupted the way we interact with information. The well-annotated and structured data in digital repositories provide valuable input for developing AI models and make the information available to more people in an interconnected way. In this webinar\, we discuss (1) use-cases on how to add value to data in digital repositories by using AI technologies\, (2) important concepts of LLMs and (3) how the EOSC Data Commons project supports data discovery using AI. We will conclude with two parallel sessions. One session will be a discussion\, in which we aim to define the most interesting opportunities and pressing challenges. The second parallel session will be a tutorial with an example on how to make use of repository data with LLM. \nSpeakers\nSéverine Duvaud\, SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics\, Team lead biodata resources\nAna-Claudia Sima\, SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics\, Co-Team Lead\, Knowledge Representation Unit\nGeert van Geest\, SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics\, Training Project Manage \nAgenda\nBelow you will find the planned agenda for the workshop. The second half of the session will be divided into two break out rooms\, for further discussions on topics of interest for the participants. \n\n\n\nTiming\nTopic\nSpeaker\n\n\n\n\n15:00-15:15\nOpportunities for AI in digital repositories – a use case\nSéverine Duvaud\n\n\n15:15-15:45\nIntroduction to Large Language Models in the context of digital repositories\nAna-Claudia Sima\n\n\n15:45-16:00\nAI-based metadata discovery – aims and activities in the EOSC data commons Project\nAna-Claudia Sima\n\n\n16:00-16:30\n(Parallel) Structured discussion with conclusions\nGeert van Geest\n\n\n16:00-16:30\n(Parallel) Tutorial on leveraging LLMs for repositories\nAna-Claudia Sima\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:National Tripartite Event: Netherlands
DESCRIPTION:This year’s meeting\, titled “Towards a Dutch position on EOSC post-2027\,” will bring together national stakeholders and European partners to discuss how the Netherlands can contribute to the next phase of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) and align with evolving European policy developments. \nThe programme will open with updates from the European Commission (Ana Teresa Maia Mota)\, EOSC-SB (Volker Beckmann)\, and the EOSC Association (Licia Florio) on the policy foundations for EOSC post-2027. These updates will cover the emerging partnership frameworks\, future governance and financial models\, and the operationalization of the EOSC Federation. \nA keynote by Prof. Daniel Oberski (Utrecht University) will bring the researcher perspective into the discussion. He will reflect on what EOSC enables in practice — including seamless access to FAIR data\, interoperable tools\, and trusted European research workflows — and what researchers need from a future EOSC Federation. \nThis will be followed by a short update on the Dutch involvement in EOSC and an in-depth discussion on the future Dutch participation. The discussion builds on the draft advice paper prepared at the request of the Open Science NL Strategy Council (OSNL-BO)\, which forms the starting point for developing a coordinated national vision on EOSC.
