SUMMARY:International Love Data Week
DESCRIPTION:The 2025 theme is “Whose Data Is It\, Anyway?” Take a minute to think about who owns data compared to who uses data. Different groups – like researchers\, the government\, companies\, or organisations – may collect data. They could own it\, share it\, publish it online\, or combine it. This year’s Love Data Week wants us to ask ‘Whose Data is it Anyway?’ This helps us remember to think about where the data came from before using it. Use this theme to have fun with your audience using data games or game shows. You could also use it to help people learn more about data literacy. Or you could talk about being responsible when dealing with important issues involving data. We’ve created a ready-to-use social media post. Simply download (or right-click) the square image and use it along with the text below to share this year’s event with your community on any social media platform. \nSave the date! SUMMARY:Tools and Services to improve the quality of Research Software
DESCRIPTION:EVERSE is running an interactive online workshop which aims to examine which tools and services researchers use to improve the quality of research software\, and how they use them. The workshop is titled “Evaluating Tools and Services to improve the quality of research software” and will take place on Monday 10 February 2025 between 10:00 and 16:00 CET. \nThe workshop is open to those who work with or develop research software and want to uphold high-quality standards regarding FAIRness\, sustainability\, portability\, testing\, security\, etc. Both non-EVERSE and EVERSE members are welcome. Members belonging to any of the 5 EOSC Science Clusters are also encouraged to take part. \nThe workshop will provide opportunities for knowledge exchange and discussion on relevant tools used to improve the quality of research software. It will also allow participants to learn from other communities\, capture existing practices\, and identify gaps in available tooling. \nA draft agenda and further details will be circulated closer to the date. \nThe event will last a full day\, but participants are welcome to attend for as long as possible if full attendance is not an option due to other commitments.

DESCRIPTION:The 19th edition of the International Digital Curation Conference (IDCC25) will take place in The Hague\, the Netherlands between 17-19 February 2025. \nAbout the International Digital Curation Conference\nThe International Digital Curation Conference (IDCC) is an established annual event with a unique place in the digital curation community\, reaching out to individuals\, organisations and institutions across all disciplines and domains involved in curating data and providing an opportunity to get together with like-minded data practitioners to discuss policy and practice. \nWorkshop submissions are now open\nAs part of our IDCC25 programme\, we invite submissions for in-person and online workshops. Workshops are events taking place before the main IDCC conference\, on Monday 17 February 2025. \nIn the past the workshops have focused on practical\, hands-on work\, often being used for training. If you have an established tool or working practice that yields results in the world of research data management\, you are also welcome to submit an application and show everyone how it works! \nThis year we are offering organisers the opportunity to host a workshop in person or online. Learn more about Workshop formats and the submission process via the Workshop page. \nCalls for papers\, lightning talks and posters have all been extended! \nSubmissions for papers and lightning talks have been extended to 11 August 2024. SUMMARY:Teaching what we practice – Open Science in higher education
DESCRIPTION:Teaching what we practice means emphasising the importance of integrating Open Science principles into academic teaching. The relevance of these practices lies in fostering a learning environment that mirrors the evolving landscape of scientific research. By embracing Open Science in higher education\, instructors can teach students not only theoretical knowledge but also practical skills in transparent\, accessible\, and reproducible research. This approach includes employing open science practices such as filling out a pre-registration form\, making students aware that sharing materials and data is helpful\, and highlighting the importance of replications. \nAs higher education institutions increasingly adopt these practices\, they prepare students for a future where open and collaborative research is the norm\, bridging the gap between academic training and real-world scientific practices. Lastly\, current students seem to be open to open science practices anyways – creating a winning setting.
