SUMMARY:Shape the Future of Research Data Curation in Europe!
DESCRIPTION:Join us in Leuven\, Belgium\, on October 1-2\, 2025\, for a transformative 2-day workshop to establish the European Expert Curation Network! \nAre you passionate about research data curation\, quality management\, and long-term preservation? Do you want to be at the forefront of shaping FAIR and TRUST principles for the future? This is your chance to collaborate with leading experts and make a lasting impact. \nWhy Attend?\nThe EOSC EDEN project invites research data curation and long-term preservation experts to a hands-on workshop where participants will: \n\nLay the foundations of a European Expert Curation Network.\nShare expertise\, experiences\, and best practices.\nBuild a collaborative vision for advancing data curation and long-term preservation across disciplines and repositories.\n\nThis workshop is the first of two events designed to bring together experts from diverse domains\, including organizations\, repositories (generalist/specialist)\, collections\, and digital object types. Together\, participants will aim to harmonize curation practices and address the challenges of ensuring that data remains FAIR over time. \nEvent Details\nTravel Support Available: travel support will be offered for selected participants. Participants will be selected based on criteria to ensure a balanced and diverse representation. This includes expertise in research data curation and long-term preservation\, as well as coverage across disciplines\, organization types\, and digital object types. \nWho Should Attend?\nEOSC EDEN is looking for approx. 20 experts with: \n\nExpertise in research data curation\, quality management\, or long-term preservation.\nRepresentation across organizations\, repositories\, collections\, or digital object types.\nA commitment to advancing FAIR+Time and TRUST principles.\n\nA second workshop is planned in 2026\, focusing more on training and endorsement of the EOSC EDEN project outcomes. \nWhy This Matters\nCuration is the cornerstone of long-term digital preservation\, yet it remains a challenge for many institutions. By establishing a European Expert Curation Network\, the project aims to: \n\nAddress gaps in expertise and experience.\nProvide a platform for collaboration and knowledge exchange.\nHarmonize curation practices across disciplines and repositories.\nEnsure data remains accessible and reusable as technology evolves.\n\nThis initiative is part of the EOSC EDEN project\, which will develop and establish a framework to identify what data are candidates for long-term preservation based on use\, benefit\, and quality and a model for re-appraisal points along data lifecycle and test usability. EOSC EDEN will identify practices to support the creation of curation\, long-term preservation\, and access strategies in Europe. In collaboration with our sister project FIDELIS\, we will work to facilitate the sustainable embedding of the European Expert Curation Network to ensure its long-term growth after the conclusion of the project. \nContact\nFor more information about the workshop or the EOSC EDEN project\, feel free to reach out: \n Email: pmo.eden(at)postit.csc.fi

SUMMARY:9th Open Science Retreat: Diamond OA: Utopian Dream or the Only Fair Future?
DESCRIPTION:You are cordially invited to the 9th Open Science Retreat – this time with a focus on Diamond Open Access. \nDiamond Open Access has gained increasing attention in recent years as a community-led\, equitable model for scholarly publishing that aligns closely with the principles of Open Science. But is Diamond Open Access the long-awaited solution for equitable scholarly publishing – or merely an idealistic vision? This retreat critically explores the promises and limitations of Diamond OA\, its role in advancing Open Science\, and the role of the scientific community in the success of the model. A view on financing models and a spotlight on successful Diamond OA initiatives will provide practical insights into key success factors and persistent challenges. \nTo guide our discussions\, we propose the following questions: \n\nWhat can the contribution of Diamond OA be to addressing current challenges in scholarly publishing and where does its potential end?\nWhat are effective strategies\, recommendations\, best practices or lessons-learnt to applying AI in a responsible manner for upholding the Open Science principles?\nWhat policy and infrastructure conditions are necessary to ensure Diamond OA can flourish?\n\nJoin for a critical examination of whether Diamond OA is an innovative model or simply the next battleground in the future of publishing. We are looking forward to an exciting retreat – be part of it!

SUMMARY:OASPA2025 Conference on Open Access Scholarly Publishing
DESCRIPTION:OASPA’s annual conference is the only event that brings together the whole of the open access community\, accelerating connection\, discovery and new thinking. Our 2025 conference will focus on the complexities we know we face in asking how we achieve a future with 100% open access. \nCollectively we will consider the key questions that arise from pursuing this goal\, for example\, can pursuit of the goal itself distract us from quality\, sustainability and inclusivity in scholarly communications? Should 100% even be the goal and what do we mean by it? \nHow do we address the crucial underlying issues to tackle in our research culture and with research integrity? Does a focus on transitioning from paywalled to open access content detract from the efforts of those already delivering 100% open access? And how is the wider geopolitical landscape impacting our ambitions?

SUMMARY:Webinar on Digital Services Act
DESCRIPTION:On Thursday\, 18 September 2025 at 16:00 CEST\, the EOSC Association will host a webinar on the Digital Services Act (DSA) and its accompanying delegated act on researcher data access\, which aims to help vetted researchers access the internal data of very large online platforms (VLOPs) and search engines (VLOSEs) across the European Union.\nA representative from the Directorate-General for Communications Networks\, Content and Technology (DG CNECT) will present the DSA and discuss its practical implications for research and innovation. The webinar will be moderated by EOSC-A President Klaus Tochtermann. \nThe webinar is open for the wider EOSC-A community and all interested stakeholders. Registration is required. Please fill in this form by 17 September 2025 (23:59 CEST) to attend the webinar. \nOn 27 June\, the Board of Digital Services Coordinators endorsed a plan for closer cooperation to ensure uniform implementation of researcher vetting and data access procedures under the DSA. The European Parliament and the Council have three months to review the delegated act following its adoption in early July. Once it enters into force and is published in the Official Journal\, the first researchers will be able to apply for access to platform data. \nIn the left-hand column of this page you will find a collection of useful links on the DSA\, in particular its data access and transparency provisions. \nJoin us to explore how these developments will expand research opportunities and prepare for the moment the delegated act takes effect.

SUMMARY:Strengthening Trust through Transparency\, Access and Quality: Emerging Strategies to Tackle Disinformation
DESCRIPTION:This session within the Science Summit 2025 addresses two pressing global challenges: (1) rebuilding trust among humans and societies and (2) combating the spread of disinformation. \nThe objectives are rooted in the recognition that no trust in information is possible if mistrust is too high within societies. Secondly\, it considers that fact-checking—though essential—arrives too late in the process to effectively tackle disinformation. Two linked actions must be done to drastically reduce disinformation: 1. increasing the quality of content and 2. (re)building trust across those sharing and receiving content. \nThe session will examine how these two areas—content quality and trust-building—are not only interrelated but work in tandem to significantly reduce the spread of disinformation. Efforts presented will illustrate how improving the integrity of information and establishing trust between institutions and the public is possible through actionable strategies that create a more informed\, resilient\, and cohesive society. \nThe interconnections between trust markers and content quality disclosures will be presented in the context of existing efforts. Taking its roots in the scientific context that have defined criteria for creating trust and maintaining quality\, the session closes with suggested actions for policymakers seeking to strengthen national data governance and stewardship.
