SUMMARY:Strategic meeting of the EOSC-PL Network on the development of the EOSC Federation
DESCRIPTION:On 16 January 2026\, representatives of the EOSC-PL Network\, bringing together over 30 organisations\, will meet at the National Science Centre Poland (NCN) headquarters in Kraków for a high-level event dedicated to the future of the EOSC Federation and the presentation of the Polish EOSC Node. \nThe Polish EOSC Node was created through the collaboration of NCN\, Cyfronet AGH\, Gdańsk University of Technology\, the University of Warsaw\, and the Institute of Oceanology of the Polish Academy of Sciences\, and it stands among the first 14 EOSC Nodes established in the first wave of the EOSC Federation Build-up phase. This achievement marks a significant milestone for Poland’s scientific and e-infrastructure landscape. \nDuring the event\, participants will learn about the evolution of the Polish EOSC Node\, as well as the mechanisms for joining it and onboarding resources. The agenda includes an overview of procedures for establishing new thematic or e-infrastructure nodes\, along with opportunities to obtain preparatory and interproject funding through the EOSC Gravity Cascading Grant mechanism. The event will also promote the call for evaluators for the second EOSC Federation build-up phase and the EOSC Gravity Cascading Grants. In addition\, participants will explore demonstrations of the EOSC-PL Discovery Hub and the EOSC EU Node\, including practical applications and a cross-node research use cases. \nThe meeting will run from 12:00 to 16:00 at NCN’s headquarters. After the formal programme\, guests are invited to an informal networking session\, offering an opportunity to exchange experiences\, discuss plans\, and strengthen collaboration within the Polish EOSC ecosystem. \nThis event represents an important step in enhancing the national engagement in the EOSC Federation in Poland.

DESCRIPTION:The Open Science Team at the National Science Centre Poland kindly invites researchers\, research support staff\, and data stewards to join our English-language online course : Research Data Management – Introductory Course. \nThe webinar introducing the course will take place on the Webex platform on 16 December\, from 10:00 to 11:15 (CET). During the webinar\, we will present the structure\, methods\, and training tools used in the course and discuss its individual modules\, including: \nModule 1: Introduction to Open Science and Research Data Management: what Open Science means\, global initiatives\, global and local benefits\, and the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) \nModule 2: Planning and organisation – Part I: research data lifecycle\, data types\, repositories\, and data management plans (DMPs) \nModule 3: Planning and Organisation – Part II: naming conventions\, version control\, preparing data for FAIR\, and legal aspects \nModule 4: Research Data Storage: secure storage practices\, data formats\, metadata\, and persistent identifiers \nModule 5: Research Data Sharing: data sharing\, FAIR principles in practice\, documentation\, and reproducibility \nModule 6: Tasks and Resources in Research Data Management: tasks\, competencies\, and supporting roles\, such as data stewards and RDM services \nParticipation in the Research Data Management – Introductory Course is free of charge\, and completion of the course will be confirmed with a certificate. \nThe NCN Open Science Team has extensive experience in developing MOOC courses and delivering training in research data management and Open Science. DESCRIPTION:This year’s meeting\, titled “Towards a Dutch position on EOSC post-2027\,” will bring together national stakeholders and European partners to discuss how the Netherlands can contribute to the next phase of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) and align with evolving European policy developments. \nThe programme will open with updates from the European Commission (Ana Teresa Maia Mota)\, EOSC-SB (Volker Beckmann)\, and the EOSC Association (Licia Florio) on the policy foundations for EOSC post-2027. These updates will cover the emerging partnership frameworks\, future governance and financial models\, and the operationalization of the EOSC Federation. \nA keynote by Prof. Daniel Oberski (Utrecht University) will bring the researcher perspective into the discussion. He will reflect on what EOSC enables in practice — including seamless access to FAIR data\, interoperable tools\, and trusted European research workflows — and what researchers need from a future EOSC Federation. \nThis will be followed by a short update on the Dutch involvement in EOSC and an in-depth discussion on the future Dutch participation. The discussion builds on the draft advice paper prepared at the request of the Open Science NL Strategy Council (OSNL-BO)\, which forms the starting point for developing a coordinated national vision on EOSC.

SUMMARY:AI for digital repositories: opportunities and challenges
DESCRIPTION:Recent developments in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Large Language Models (LLM) in particular have disrupted the way we interact with information. The well-annotated and structured data in digital repositories provide valuable input for developing AI models and make the information available to more people in an interconnected way. DESCRIPTION:The EOSC EDEN project\, an EU-funded initiative\, is launching its webinar series to share key results and insights from its work on advancing digital preservation strategies across Europe. At the heart of EOSC EDEN lies the ambition to develop a comprehensive framework for identifying research data that should be prioritised for long-term digital preservation at both European and national levels. \nIn this first seminar\, we will present one of the project’s major achievements — the Core Preservation Processes (CPPs). CPPs define the essential actions that every Trustworthy Digital Archive (TDA) should perform\, either directly or in collaboration with associated partners or services\, to effectively carry out its digital preservation mission as outlined in its preservation policy. \nA detailed paper on the CPPs has been published in the EOSC EDEN Zenodo Community. SUMMARY:Open Science in the light of geopolitical polarisation
DESCRIPTION:The current geopolitical landscape is characterised by rising political and trade tensions as well as heightened economic interest in scientific innovation. This polarisation has significant implications for the global scientific community\, particularly in the pursuit of Open Science. Could the naivety of science be exploited? Where is the line between scientific idealism and naivety? \nAs major global powers engage in systemic rivalries\, the conduct of science is increasingly influenced by national security concerns\, export controls\, and sanctions that can restrict the free flow of ideas\, data\, and researchers across borders. Meanwhile\, global challenges such as pandemics\, climate change\, and technology-based development require international scientific collaboration and universal knowledge development. The normative nature of the scientific ethos is increasingly in tension with political forces that demand that science be both vigilant and competitive. \nHow can Open Science – with its emphasis on transparency\, collaboration\, efficiency and validity of scientific results – be sustained in the light of these competing interests? \nDuring this year’s Open Science Days\, we will explore these tensions by discussing the interrelations of Open Science\, political interests\, and innovation. We will ask how research organizations can reconcile Open Science policies with resilience and competitiveness. \n\n\nAbout Open Science Days\nThe Open Science Days (OSD) are periodically organised by the Max Planck Digital Library. \nIn the context of this conferences we deal with various aspects of a global movement towards a more open\, transparent and reproducible approach to science. Aside from invited expert talks\, participants get the opportunity to present their own ideas\, experiences\, initiatives or activities in a Lightning Talk session. It is an open discussion platform around current Open Science developments. \nThe hybrid event is directed at researchers and specialists outside the Max Planck Society as well as within. DESCRIPTION:Blue-Cloud partners and collaborators will gather in Brussels from 5 to 7 November 2025 for a three-day series of strategic and technical sessions\, anchored by the Third Federation Workshop. The event takes place just after the EOSC Symposium 2025\, as Blue-Cloud is supporting the creation of a Marine Thematic Node within the EOSC Federation. \n\nOn 5 November\, in the morning the Blue-Cloud consortium will convene in closed sessions to review progress and coordinate on work package tasks.In the afternoon\, the event opens up to a broader audience with two hands-on sessions exploring the EOSC Marine Node core and thematic services and cross-node use cases. These interactive demonstrations will offer participants a closer look at the technical developments powering Blue-Cloud’s federated services.\nOn 6 November\, the Third Federation Workshop will bring together project partners\, EOSC stakeholders\, and Synergy Projects for a full day of in-depth discussion and exchange. SUMMARY:National Open Science Festival
DESCRIPTION:Open Science NL is delighted that the University of Groningen (UG) and the University Medical Center (UMCG) have generously offered to host this year’s festival. The one-day event will be held in the buildings of the UMCG. \nLike last year\, the festival is organised by a team with representatives from the host institution\, Open Science NL\, DANS\, and the National Coordination Point for Research Data Management (LCRDM). In addition\, the programme will be curated by an independent committee\, ensuring broad community representation. The programme committee will be chaired by Casper Albers\, dean of the Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences and chair of the steering committee of the Open Science Programme at the University of Groningen\, and Ana Ranitović\, chief of Open Science at the University of Groningen. \nPrevious editions of the festival were hosted by Wageningen University (2021\, online)\, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (2022)\, Erasmus University Rotterdam (2023)\, and Maastricht University (2024). \nThe opening of registration will be announced via the festival’s communication channels and those of the participating organisations.

The event will take place on the afternoon of 22nd of October and the morning of 23rd. \nOn the first day\, the focus will be on the solutions of the problems being addressed\, inviting the Open Call Winners who will pitch their ideas. 10 academic research groups\, start-ups and SMEs\, active in data-driven innovation in 3 main areas: food tracking\, targeted nutrition and consumers’ food choices were funded. \nThe aim is to show the public what has been developed through implementing Digital Responsibility Goals.On the second day\, the research findings will be presented. Starting from with the introduction of the problem (technology advancement and decrease of trust in people) and our solution by introducing the digital responsibility goals (DRGs). Following\, the analysis of map&gap and the foresight will be presented to explain why the roadmap was concluded in combination with the highlighting of the of the opportunities and threats that led to the policy briefing. Another session will be dedicated to FOODITY output.
