SUMMARY:4th Annual Forum for Open Research in MENA
DESCRIPTION:This year\, the Annual Forum will offer a mixture of individual presentations\, moderated round table discussions\, and workshops. As accessibility lies at the hearts of everything we do\, this will be a fully hybrid event\, with all in-person activities live streamed\, in English and Arabic. The programme will include a full day of online presentations\, two days of in-person presentations\, and a half day of high-impact workshops. \nReflecting the overarching message of last year’s Annual Forum concerning the need to collaborate as individuals\, as institutions\, as communities and countries – within our local environment and as a region – this year’s theme focuses on building our open science communities and developing our open science capacities. \nGiven the UAE has designated 2025 as the Year of Community\, we are therefore particularly delighted to be able to announce that this year’s Annual Forum\, will take place in the UAE\, in partnership with the American University of Sharjah. We are honoured to be partnering with this institution\, a regional leader for research and education in the Arab world. We are also excited to be able to host the Annual Forum in the Emirate of Sharjah\, which is home to so many of the region’s leading publishers and collaborative research and innovation centers. \n

SUMMARY:United Nations Open Science and Open Scholarship Conference
DESCRIPTION:The right to participate in & benefit from science\nDespite significant commitments\, billions of people – especially in developing countries – still lack meaningful access to participate in and benefit from critical scientific knowledge\, research infrastructure\, and emerging technologies. Open science and open scholarship provide a transformative pathway to reverse these trends\, fostering multilateral cooperation\, responsible innovation\, and the equitable dissemination of knowledge. As stated in the UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science\, we must ensure “reciprocal access to science for all producers and consumers of knowledge regardless of their location\, nationality\, race\, age\, gender\, income\, socio-economic circumstance\, career stage\, discipline\, language\, religion\, disability\, ethnicity\, migratory status or any other grounds”. \nOrganised by the United Nations Dag Hammarskjöld Library of the Department of Global Communications in collaboration with the Department of Economic and Social Affairs\, Division of Sustainable Development Goals and UNESCO’s Division of Science Policy and Capacity-Building\, the 4th United Nations Open Science and Open Scholarship Conference will serve as a platform to advance these principles as key priorities in the international agenda for implementing the Pact for the Future. From 16-18 October\, 2025\, the conference will convene policymakers\, IGO representatives\, researchers\, scholars\, librarians\, publishers\, and civil society\, both online and in person United Nations University (UNU) in Tokyo\, Japan. It will serve as an urgent call to accelerate transformations in science and scholarship in alignment with actions 28-33 of the Pact of the Future\, to map progress in national and international efforts towards opening the record of science\, and to inspire collaborative actions and coalitions to expedite progress ensuring no country\, community\, or individual is left behind.

DESCRIPTION:A newly launched national collaborative effort to design and test a prototype framework unifying Swiss research data services in alignment with EOSC\, SENPro is inviting the research community to an online event dedicated to the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) and how Switzerland shapes and engages with the initiative on 9 October 2025\, 9:30–13:00. \nCreating an EOSC Federation of Nodes is pivotal for a Europe advancing towards an interconnected ecosystem of data repositories and services. Not only will it enable Open Science to thrive\, but also reduce fragmentation in the national landscape and promote long-term sustainability. By developing SENPro\, Switzerland seeks to strengthen its contribution to the European Open Science movement. \nEOSC’s broader vision is to establish a FAIR framework for its research data and services on an interdisciplinary as well as supranational level. DESCRIPTION:The CRAFT-OA project will host its final event on 6-8 October 2025 in Göttingen\, Germany! The overall theme will be “How data and publishing flourish together\,” and it will present the major accomplishments of CRAFT-OA and how these can be utilised by the Diamond OA community. To foster community participation in the event we will issue a Call for Submissions (coming soon) around crucial Diamond OA topics and a Call for Posters\, open for journals\, initiatives or networks. \nFurthermore the event will include a dedicated slot on Diamond OA as part of the EOSC and hands-on sessions on technical topics. Directly after the Final Event\, 8 October 2025 a consortium meeting of CRAFT-OA will take place in the same location. The morning sessions will be open to public\, while the afternoon sessions will be project-internal. \nThe event is free\, but registration is mandatory. Registration for the event will open in July. We have limited space for 100 participants and will close registration once the capacity is reached.

DESCRIPTION:The European Galaxy Days will be held from the 1st to 3rd of October 2025 in Freiburg im Breisgau\, Germany. This 3-day meeting will be similar to the events we held in 2023\, 2022\, 2018\, 2016\, 2014\, and 2012. The first two days will give an overview of the current state of the Galaxy framework and community with several talks\, demonstrations\, and Birds of a Feather sessions. As part of a CoFest\, the third day offer the opportunity to continue the discussions\, to code and hack as well as enjoy the Galaxy community. \nRegistration is free. It is recommended to register as soon as possible to secure your spot for different events as well as helping us to organise the event better. The traveling\, accommodation\, and subsistence expenses will be partially covered by the organisers for a limited number of ELIXIR participants. SUMMARY:EOSC Federation Build-up Group meeting #7
DESCRIPTION:The 7th meeting of the EOSC Federation Build-up Group will take place on 1-2 October 2025 in Helsinki\, Finland. Hosted at CSC – IT Center for Science\, the meeting will be held in-person only.\nDuring the meeting\, scientific use cases\, set to be monitored through November 2025\, will be presented and discussed. The meeting will also serve as a working platform to prepare these use cases for presentation to the broader EOSC community at the EOSC Symposium 2025 in Brussels. \nA detailed agenda for the two full-day meeting will be shared after the summer break\, following its approval at the group’s sixth meeting at the end of August. \n\nRegistration\nRegistration for the two full-day meeting is now open and will close on Sunday\, 21 September 2025 (23:59 CEST)! Participation is limited to members of the EOSC Federation Build-up Group. Invited participants have received a password to access the registration page. \n\nTravel arrangements\nParticipants are responsible for booking and covering the costs of their travel and accommodation. \nThe organisers have compiled a list of recommended hotels within walking distance of the Central Railway Station and the metro. These hotels offer discounted rates for participants in the Build-up Group meeting. All of the details can be found in this document. \n\nVenue\nCSC is located a 10-minute metro ride from central Helsinki in the neighbouring city of Espoo. CSC offices are in the Life Science Centre\, around 50 metres away from the Keilaniemi metro station. \n\nTravel instructions and sightseeing tips\nClick “Read more” for detailed travel instructions on reaching the event venue as well as recommendations on what to explore in Helsinki. \n \nFrom Helsinki Airport (HEL) to the City Center\nTrain\n\nThe fastest way to central Helsinki is the train. In the arrivals hall\, follow the terminal signs for the train station. The train terminates at the Central Railway Station (Rautatieasema) and the journey takes approximately 35-38 minutes.\nYou can purchase a ticket at a station ticket machine\, by using the HSL mobile app\, or by tapping a card on one of the card readers. You will need to select an ABC travel zone ticket. (HSL app)\n\nBus\n\nYou can also take the bus to central Helsinki. First\, follow the terminal signs for buses. At the bus station\, the line 600 takes you to the Central Railway Station (Rautatieasema). The bus will take around 45 minutes.\nYou can purchase a ticket at a station ticket machine\, by using the HSL mobile app\, or by tapping a card on the card reader when onboarding the bus. You will need to select an ABC travel zone ticket. (HSL app)\n\nTaxi\n\nTaxis are widely available at Helsinki Airport. There is a fixed rate to the city centre at 42€. Taxis accept cards and give receipts. A taxi ride to the centre will take around 25-30 minutes.\nYou can also use Uber or Bolt\, which usually offer a lower rate – if you use one of these\, follow the app instructions to locate the pick-up point. These services issue receipts automatically in their apps.\n\nFrom the City Center to CSC\nMetro\n\nYou can take the metro from any station in the city centre to Keilaniemi station. This is in the direction of Tapiola or Kivenlahti (last stops on the line). At Keilaniemi station\, follow the signs to Exit G to Keilaranta. The Life Science Centre is across the street from Exit G\, and the closest entrance is at Keilaranta 18 (at the end of the tram platform). A steps-free entrance is at Keilaranta 14.\nOnce inside the Life Science Centre\, follow the signs for the Auditorium.\nMetro tickets can be purchased at the machines at the station\, on the HSL mobile app\, or you can tap your card on a card reader when entering the metro\, after selecting the AB travel zone. (HSL app)\n\nTaxi\n\nTaxis are widely available in central Helsinki. You can also use Uber or Bolt\, which issue receipts automatically in their apps. A taxi ride to CSC will take around 20 minutes.\nPlease ask to be dropped off at the Main Entrance of the Life Science Centre\, at Keilaranta 14.\n\nFrom Helsinki Airport to CSC\nTrain + Metro\n\nTake the train from Helsinki Airport to the Central Railway Station (Rautatieasema). Here follow the orange M signs for the metro station located beneath the train station. Take the metro to Keilaniemi – you can use the same ticket you used on the train\, as this is valid for 90 minutes.\n\nTaxi\n\nTaxis are widely available at Helsinki Airport. Taxis accept cards and give receipts. A taxi ride to the Life Science Centre will take around 25-30 minutes.\nYou can also use Uber or Bolt\, which usually offer lower rates – if you use one of these\, follow the app instructions to locate the terminal pick-up point. These services issue receipts automatically in their apps.\n\n\nExplore Helsinki\nHelsinki sits on the southern coast of Finland and is known for its Art Nouveau architecture and beautiful archipelago. Some top sites to visit include: \n\nSuomenlinna: This sea fortress is a UNESCO World Heritage site on a historic island with charming cafes and even a brewery. It can be reached by a short ferry ride from the Market Square (Kauppatori).\nRock Church (Temppeliaukion kirkko): This church attracts millions of visitors every year\, drawn by the church having been built directly into solid rock.\nSenate Square: This square is encircled by 19th century architectural masterpieces\, including the Helsinki Cathedral\, the National Library\, the University of Helsinki main building\, and the Government Palace.\nAllas Sea Pool: Sauna culture is central to Finnish life – here you can experience the Finnish sauna and even take a dip in sea temperature waters.\nOodi Library: The new central library of Helsinki opened in 2018\, redefining the concept of a library in the twenty-first century. The library awes with its architecture and its offerings from not only books but 3D printers\, musical instruments\, library robots\, and more.

DESCRIPTION:The ENRIO 2025 Congress in Ljubljana will continue the newly established series of biennial events addressing research integrity practice (RI) and the development of responsible research in Europe. ENRIO 2025 is organised by the European Network of Research Integrity Offices (ENRIO) and University of Ljubljana\, Slovenia. \nThe Congress is aimed at all experts in research integrity and research ethics\, RI officers and practitioners\, members of ethics and investigation committees\, representatives of research funding organisations and sponsors\, and all interested and involved in the enhancement and sustainable implementation of good RI practices and policies. \nThematically\, the Congress will emphasise power dynamics in research and institutional responsibility to foster an open\, safe and inclusive research environment as a foundation for RI in everyday practice. In a broader global context\, this also implies the recognition of fairness\, equity and diversity as essential components of RI\, as outlined in the Cape Town Statement of 2022. Contributions will reflect the range of challenges\, as well as practical and emerging solutions for prevention and awareness raising. \nRegistration and Call for Abstracts opened in December 2024.

DESCRIPTION:On Thursday\, 18 September 2025 at 16:00 CEST\, the EOSC Association will host a webinar on the Digital Services Act (DSA) and its accompanying delegated act on researcher data access\, which aims to help vetted researchers access the internal data of very large online platforms (VLOPs) and search engines (VLOSEs) across the European Union.\nA representative from the Directorate-General for Communications Networks\, Content and Technology (DG CNECT) will present the DSA and discuss its practical implications for research and innovation. The webinar will be moderated by EOSC-A President Klaus Tochtermann. \nThe webinar is open for the wider EOSC-A community and all interested stakeholders. Registration is required. Please fill in this form by 17 September 2025 (23:59 CEST) to attend the webinar. \nOn 27 June\, the Board of Digital Services Coordinators endorsed a plan for closer cooperation to ensure uniform implementation of researcher vetting and data access procedures under the DSA. The European Parliament and the Council have three months to review the delegated act following its adoption in early July. Once it enters into force and is published in the Official Journal\, the first researchers will be able to apply for access to platform data. \nIn the left-hand column of this page you will find a collection of useful links on the DSA\, in particular its data access and transparency provisions. \nJoin us to explore how these developments will expand research opportunities and prepare for the moment the delegated act takes effect.

DESCRIPTION:The OSCA (Open Scientific Collections Austria) consortium is an association of natural science museums and university collections with the aim of building up skills and capacities for the digitisation of natural science collections in Austria. The consortium will meet on 11-12 September 2025 at the Natural History Museum in Vienna to discuss perspectives related to the digital transformation of natural science collections. \nIn 2025\, Austria will also become part of the European Research Infrastructure DiSSCo (Distributed System of Scientific Collections) as an early adopter\, with the goal of establishing a federated European infrastructure as a powerful tool for data-intensive research based on real world collection objects. \nOn the first day the talks will focus on the processes involved from institutional commitment towards national and European infrastructures. Various infrastructures will be presented and talks will outline the overall visions\, emphasising the richness and contextualisation within the landscape of research infrastructures. \nOn the second day\, a hands-on workshop and interactive training will give the opportunity to work on data transfer from institutions to the OSCA Cache\, the national data aggregation node for DiSSCo. \n\n\n\n\nThe conference is free of charge. Various infrastructures will be presented and talks will outline the overall visions\, emphasizing the richness and contextualization within the landscape of Research Infrastructures. \nOn the second day\, a hands-on workshop and interactive training will give the opportunity to work on data transfer from institutions to the OSCA Cache\, the national data aggregation node for DiSSCo. \n\n\n\n\nThe conference is free of charge. DESCRIPTION:On 11–12 September 2025 (noon to noon)\, France will host an EOSC National Tripartite Event in Paris. The meeting is\, organised by the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research (MESR)\, together with the Collège EOSC-France\, a consortium of member organisations supporting user communities and promoting EOSC activities nationally.  \nThe event will bring together representatives from the French research community\, the European Commission\, and MESR to discuss the latest developments in EOSC. The programme will focus on the EOSC Federation\, showcasing the experiences of thefrom candidate EOSC Nodes\, insights from users of the EOSC EU Node\, and contributions from several EOSC-related\, EU-funded projects. SUMMARY:Strengthening Trust through Transparency\, Access and Quality: Emerging Strategies to Tackle Disinformation
DESCRIPTION:This session within the Science Summit 2025 addresses two pressing global challenges: (1) rebuilding trust among humans and societies and (2) combating the spread of disinformation. \nThe objectives are rooted in the recognition that no trust in information is possible if mistrust is too high within societies. Secondly\, it considers that fact-checking—though essential—arrives too late in the process to effectively tackle disinformation. Two linked actions must be done to drastically reduce disinformation: 1. increasing the quality of content and 2. (re)building trust across those sharing and receiving content. \nThe session will examine how these two areas—content quality and trust-building—are not only interrelated but work in tandem to significantly reduce the spread of disinformation. Efforts presented will illustrate how improving the integrity of information and establishing trust between institutions and the public is possible through actionable strategies that create a more informed\, resilient\, and cohesive society. \nThe interconnections between trust markers and content quality disclosures will be presented in the context of existing efforts. Taking its roots in the scientific context that have defined criteria for creating trust and maintaining quality\, the session closes with suggested actions for policymakers seeking to strengthen national data governance and stewardship.
