SUMMARY:First FAIR-EASE Webinar
DESCRIPTION:In a world where all societal and scientific challenges are intertwined\, it is urgent to launch multidisciplinary initiatives and projects so that scientists from different domains can collaborate. In order to carry out multidisciplinary projects\, it becomes essential to develop gateways between metadata standards that will allow the matching of data representations designed for different domains. The opening of these gateways is therefore necessary for developing services across the disciplines\, which is the focus of the FAIR-EASE project. \nRegister now \nFAIR-EASE focuses on opening these gateways for the earth and environmental sciences which require a large volume of data from sources such as satellite\, in-situ observations\, models\, and even omics experiments. Earth system domains are interconnected\, but the present digital architecture is based essentially on distributed and domain-dependent data repositories inducing real difficulties for integrated uses of all the environmental data. This creates barriers for several studies with large societal impacts\, such as climate change\, agriculture and food\, human safety and health. \nObjective of the webinar \nIn this dedicated webinar on 6 April 2023\, 13:00-14:00 CET\, FAIR-EASE will present the distributed and integrated services for observation and modelling of the Earth system\, environment and biodiversity being developed in close cooperation with user-communities\, the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) and research infrastructures in their design and sustainable availability. \nThe meeting has the purpose to involve external communities\, share our vision and objectives and receive feedback. \nWho should attend and why? \nAnyone who is interested in Earth systems or environmental data and easily accessing them and integrating them across domains should attend\, but most especially: \n\nResearch and academia representatives who are interested in discovering the potential outcomes of integrating multidisciplinary data in their research;\nPolicy makers at the European\, national and even local levels that seek integrated cross-domain data to support decision-making;\nEOSC Ecosystem members who want to know more about how FAIR-EASE fits into EOSC’s FAIR data and services\nEarth and environmental data providers that want to see how to promote further use of their data\nGeneral public with an interest in earth systems and environmental data\n\nLearn more

SUMMARY:National Tripartite Event in Croatia
DESCRIPTION:Date: 30 March 2023\, 10:30-17:00 CEST \nThe Croatian EOSC national event will be held on March 30\, 2023. This whole-day event is organised by University Computing Centre SRCE\, which is a Mandated organisation in Croatia. The event aims to encourage and support coordination between policymakers\, research funding organisations\, research performing organisations\, service providers\, and the community in Open Science\, supporting the implementation of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) and the National Open Science Cloud Initiative. \nIn the first session of the program\, representatives from the European Commission\, the EOSC Association\, the EOSC Management Board\, the Ministry of Science and Education\, and the mandated organisation will present the priorities and activities necessary for stronger implementation of EOSC. In the continuation of the program\, we will present examples of the best practices in Croatia in the field of open science from the perspectives of researchers\, financiers\, and policymakers\, as well as progress on the adoption of a national open science plan and the establishment of the Croatian Open Science Cloud. \nWe will end the tripartite event with the high-level panel “What Needs to Happen Next in Croatia” in which we will discuss the prerequisites and needs for strengthening open science and the implementation of EOSC in Croatia (at the level of national and institutional policies and legislation\, infrastructure\, education and practical applications in research). The participants are Antica Čulina\, a researcher at Ruđer Bošković Institute\, David Smith\, Director of the Ruđer Bošković Institute\, Dubravko Majetić\, Vice-rector for Science\, Research and Postgraduate Studies at the University of Zagreb\, and Lea Lazzarich\, director of University library Rijeka. The moderator of the panel will be Zoran Bekić\, advisor to the director of SRCE.

SUMMARY:National Tripartite Event Bulgaria
DESCRIPTION:The Tripartite Event Bulgaria took place in Sofia\, Bulgaria\, on 28 March 2023. \nThe Bulgarian Open Science Plan aims to maintain a trusted infrastructure for open science publications and data\, to create incentives for researchers\, to adopt the practices and to align the national and institutional policies. The other activities are promotion of the practices and fostering the new skills and competences. The Ministry of Education and Science together with the National Centre for Information and Documentation run a Bulgarian portal for open science. A number of research performing organisations in Bulgaria have signed a Memorandum for cooperation in the field of open science. \nThe EOSC Tripartite Event brought together all EU and national actors involved in open science policies and practices. The aim of the event was to introduce and raise the awareness of the RPO and RFO and to bring to the attention of the audience the last EOSC papers on the data literacy\, EOSC funding mechanisms and on the monitoring of EOSC implementation at all levels\, including awards and assessment. The event contributed to the national vision on EOSC policy and the institutional OS plans’ design and implementation. It was a platform for the researchers and research managers to meet the EOSC key actors and to discuss a combined efforts and expected benefits. \n>> Read the programme

SUMMARY:FAIR-IMPACT Open Call for Support webinar
DESCRIPTION:How can I practically apply the FAIR Principles in my work? How do I know what is the right FAIR-enabling tool for me? To help answer these questions\, FAIR-IMPACT will be launching the first of three open calls for financial support in April 2023. In this first open call\, the project will be encouraging applications to participate in either of two defined support actions designed to help participants learn how to use specific tools\, methods\, and approaches to start (or continue) their journey to becoming more FAIR-enabling. For more information on the open call\, including FAQs and an Expression of Interest form\, please view the dedicated webpage. \nOn March 27\, FAIR-IMPACT will be hosting a webinar to introduce potential applicants and other interested parties to the open call and to provide details about the two support actions on offer. SUMMARY:DDI-CDI: Optimising Your Data Description for Integration and Reuse
DESCRIPTION:The goal of this workshop is to explain the mechanism employed by DDI-CDI and how it can most easily be leveraged to enhance the reusability of research data. DDI-CDI is a model-based\, platform- and technology-independent specification designed to supplement the metadata holdings of data disseminators\, archives\, and producers. By allowing for an expression of structural metadata\, with references to external controlled vocabularies and ontologies\, and by connecting metadata records intended for discovery\, provenance\, and process description\, it can act as a connector format which is independent of domain standards. Typically\, it can be produced in a programmatic fashion from existing metadata records held in more domain-specific models\, although it can also be used as a stand-alone specification. It supports granular\, machine-actionable description of a wide variety of data\, from traditional wide data files to event/streaming data to key-value (“big”) data and multidimensional cubes. \nThis workshop will present an overview followed by a series of worked examples\, with an exploration of different types of implementations and features of the standard in each. The intent is to give more than an overview\, to help participants understand not only what DDI-CDI is intended to do\, but also how it works to complement other popular metadata models and standards. Different syntax representations of the standards will be discussed. \nDDI has long published metadata standards for the social\, economic and behavioural sciences\, which are widely used among data producers and archives\, including those in the CESSDA network\, such as the Swedish National Data Service\, the UK Data Archive\, Sciences Po\, Gesis\, Sikt – the Norwegian Agency for Shared Services in Education and Research and many more. DDI-CDI represents an evolution reflecting the growing importance of cross-disciplinary research and the requirement for data services to describe new types of data coming from other domains. The result is a specification which can describe any data in a domain agnostic fashion and is useful within domains for which other DDI specifications are not relevant. Because of this domain independent feature\, it has become central to the WorldFAIR project work on the Cross-Domain Interoperability Framework. \nEach part comprises three topics\, which will each be structured around a presentation and discussion. \nTarget Audience: \nThis workshop is intended to be useful to both technical and operational staff working in organisations which produce\, archive\, integrate\, and disseminate quantitative research data\, regardless of domain orientation. SUMMARY:National Tripartite Event Hungary
DESCRIPTION:The National Research\, Development and Innovation Office (NRDIO) in cooperation with the European Commission and the EOSC Association is organising a tripartite event about the current policy achievements and support of Open Science in Hungary. The Hungarian mandated organisation to EOSC\, the Governmental Agency for IT Development – KIFÜ is supporting the organisation of the meeting. \nThe aim of the event is to present the current position on Open Science and EOSC in Hungary and to exchange opinions with officers of the EOSC Association and the European Commission on the support policies and best practices in this field. \nThe morning session will start with the NRDIO sharing some perspectives from Hungarian Science Policy and Funding. Then representatives from the EC DG Research and Innovation\, and EOSC Steering Board will present their views on the position of Open Science and the future of EOSC. The priorities and activities necessary for stronger implementation of EOSC will be presented by the EOSC Association\, while the mandated organisation KIFÜ will tell the audience about its activities in the field of Open Science and EOSC promotion until now. \nAfter the lunch break\, as a continuation of the event\, two panel sessions will take place. High level representatives from various research infrastructures have been invited to the first panel to discuss their views on how to best support Open Science and the creation and exchange of FAIR Data. This part will be moderated by KIFÜ. \nThe second panel discussion is dedicated to Open Science policies. It will be moderated by the EOSC Association and opinions from panel participants representing funders\, librarians and researches will be shared. \nThe event is expected to contribute to extending the position on Open Science in Hungary towards more specific actions regarding the European Open Science Cloud.

SUMMARY:The WorldFAIR Project's Cross-Domain Interoperability Framework
DESCRIPTION:The goal of this event is to describe the reasoning behind the development of the Cross-Domain Interoperability Framework (CDIF)\, to give a detailed picture of how it is currently envisioned and what activities\, functions\, and standards it will encompass\, and to provide a current status of the work. \nThe EC-funded WorldFAIR project is coordinated by CODATA\, with RDA as a major partner\, and will produce an initial draft of the CDIF recommendations. Building on WorldFAIR\, and other expert communities\, a Working Group and Advisory Group have been established to oversee the development of CDIF. It is expected that CDIF will persist beyond the scope of the initial WorldFAIR Project\, and include not only the eleven domain case studies\, but also other interested communities. Efforts will be made to align with major global initiatives and infrastructures addressing data interoperability (such as EOSC\, ARDC\, UNECE Modern Statistics). \nThe first part of the workshop will focus on the functional drivers and requirements for defining a set of activities to support the FAIR principles\, and to show the organisational and system dynamics which make CDIF necessary. The development process and questions around the organisation of the work will also be described. The draft of CDIF to be presented identifies activities and information implicit in adherence to and support for the FAIR principles. CDIF is built on top of the generic foundation provided by the FAIR Digital Object Framework\, to address interoperability at the level of applications rather than exchange protocols. CDIF reflects the granular needs for domain metadata being expressed in broadly understood terms where possible\, supplemented by domain-specific semantics where absolutely required. \nThe second part of the workshop will show how these research and data requirements can be translated into system functions and services\, and how these can be supported through the use of existing standards and specifications for the needed information. These will include specifications such as DCAT\, Schema.org\, DDI-CDI\, SKOS/XKOS\, SSSOM\, OGC Observations & Measurements/I-PROV\, etc. Specific features of the standards and how they can be used in combination will be addressed\, although not at a technical level. Feedback from participants will be elicited\, and their input collected to help us inform the ongoing development work. \nThe workshop will be interactive and built around structured discussion of the draft CDIF. \nTarget Audience: \nImplementers and practitioners at all levels who are concerned with FAIR\, especially in cross-domain or cross-infrastructure scenarios. SUMMARY:Pan-European digital assets supporting research communities
DESCRIPTION:Recently\, a range of new functionalities and resources have become available on the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) to support data intensive research\, data discovery and more. There has been much discussion on the EOSC vision\, but what is the actual added value for researchers and end users? \nOn 5-6 December 2022\, EOSC Future and the INFRAEOSC-07 projects (C-SCALE\, DICE\, EGI-ACE\, OpenAIRE Nexus\, Reliance) are hosting an online showcase event for researchers. The thematic focus of this event will be 3 UN Sustainable Development Goals: Climate action (SDG 3)\, Industry\, Innovation & infrastructure (SDG 9) and Good health & wellbeing (SDG 13). \nOver 2 half-day webinars\, a series of use cases\, presented by real users\, will show how EOSC digital assets\, developed and provided by EOSC Future & the INFRAEOSC-07 projects\, can help research communities throughout and beyond Europe do their work more effectively. SUMMARY:VI Pomeranian Open Science Conference
DESCRIPTION:On 2 December 2022\, the 6th Pomeranian Open Science Conference: Policies and Infrastructures for Open Science will take place. This year’s edition of this nationwide scientific conference is designed to summarise the activities to date in developing policies and tools to support the opening up of scientific research results\, including research data\, and to discuss the directions for the development of such services. \nThe conference will also provide an opportunity to summarise the first year of activities of the Polish working group DSCC-IN PL\, coordinated by the Gdansk University of Technology in cooperation with GO-FAIR. \nIn order to introduce Conference Participants to this year’s topic\, a workshop on the European Open Science Cloud/EOSC organised by the National Science Centre is scheduled for 1 December 2022\, during which the idea of a common European space for research data will be presented\, a meeting of the Polish EOSC-PL Working Group\, which includes representatives of universities and institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences\, members of the EOSC Association\, and a meeting of the DSCC-PL Working Group – the first national initiative addressed to data stewards and all those who deal with research data management in their work. The conference is also preceded by a two-day seminar\, co-organised by the PG Library and Elsevier\, which will address issues such as rankings\, scientific excellence and open science. \n>> More info

DESCRIPTION:The final event of PaNOSC aims to present the way forward for the major results achieved during the four years of the project. The project’s contributors will gather to discuss about the future and sustainability of the tools\, software and services developed to make data findable\, accessible\, interoperable and reusable (FAIR) at European Photon and Neutron (PaN) facilities\, towards the implementation of a PaN Data Commons to further  contribute to the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC). \nThe event will also be an opportunity to collect feedback and expectations of PaN scientists on their view on the future of FAIR data. \nMoreover\, an overview of the policy issues related to the further implementation of the EOSC will also be addressed\, by involving representatives of the EOSC and of research Infrastructures and PaN initiatives. \nOther EOSC-related projects will be invited to share their best practices and lessons learnt from the experiences of their communities. \nRead more and register at: https://indico.esrf.fr/event/66/
