SUMMARY:ECS Cluster Event
DESCRIPTION:A common thread that runs through almost all citizen science initiatives is their collection and generation of data. With the expanding scope of these initiatives\, we are seeing an unprecedented increase in data. This data\, when transformed into knowledge\, is invaluable not only for deepening our understanding of scientific and social phenomena but also for its crucial role in informing evidence-based policy-making. The transition from raw data to knowledge\, however\, is dependent on several factors. Key among these is the application of good data practices and the establishment of comprehensive data infrastructures. Moreover\, for the citizen science community\, embracing the principles of open science\, open data and adhering to the FAIR (Findable\, Accessible\, Interoperable\, and Reusable) standards and CARE principles are crucial steps\, among other strategic approaches\, to fully capitalise on citizen-generated data. \nThis year’s cluster event is set to highlight the importance of strengthening data practices and infrastructures within the European citizen science landscape. The event is structured not to overwhelm with technical data specifics but to offer a welcoming environment for everyone from the citizen science community. The event will act as a forum for gaining a deeper understanding of the essential matters concerning data practices and infrastructures. It will enable participants to reflect on how these developments can be tailored to and supportive of their own needs and objectives within their citizen science projects. \n  \nObjectives: \n\nTo promote networking between the citizen science community and EU representatives.\nTo provide a space to exchange practical experiences and lessons learnt around the topic of data\, more specifically data practices\, services and infrastructures.\nTo understand and highlight the needs of the CS community in terms of data practices\, services and infrastructure and thus help shape the work CSIC is doing in the ECS project (e.g.\, for the development of Citizen Science Data Acquisition Infrastructures).

SUMMARY:The Adoption of Persistent Identifiers in MENA: Challenges and Opportunities
DESCRIPTION:Join us in 2 weeks to learn about the role of persistent identifiers in Open Science and how they can improve research infrastructures across the Arab world! \nThe Adoption of Persistent Identifiers in MENA: Challenges and Opportunities is a 1.5-hour workshop that aims to introduce participants to the use of Persistent Identifier (PIDs) in Open Research practices across the MENA region\, looking at what they offer to the research infrastructure and to the scientific community as a whole. \n‘The Adoption of Persistent Identifier (PIDs) in MENA: Challenges and Opportunities’ will present the current challenges and solutions presented when implementing PIDs in the MENA region. Participants will gain an understanding of the global Open Infrastructure landscape and how PIDs are being used on global and national levels. They will also learn about DataCite’s role in fostering the adoptions of PIDs\, improving accessibility\, and enabling communities in lesser represented regions to further benefit from our open infrastructure services through the Global Access Program (GAP). \nWhat you will learn: \n\nIntroduction to PIDs\nGlobal landscape for PIDs adoptions\nRegional challenges (awareness and technical)\nDataCite’s role in fostering the regional adoptions\nGlobal Access Program\nMENA Case Studies\n\n

SUMMARY:V4 Conference 2024: Research Infrastructures
DESCRIPTION:In collaboration with the colleagues from V4 R&I support offices in Brussels (CZELO\, SLORD\, PolSCA\, NRDIO)\, PAN have selected Research Infrastructures as their central theme for this year’s conference. The V4 region boasts a wealth of intriguing examples of best practices\, ranging from established infrastructures to emerging ones. Their aim is to delve into these examples and provide a platform for insightful discussions led by speakers coming from various directions. \nThey recognize the importance of aligning our discussions with past Presidencies of the Council of the EU\, particularly emphasizing Council Conclusions touching upon Research Infrastructures. These conclusions underscore the necessity for member states to ensure the long-term sustainability and digital enhancement of their research infrastructures. \nMoreover\, the conference promises ample networking opportunities\, facilitating engaging debates among relevant stakeholders from the Brussels R&I community\, EU bodies\, and Permanent Representations. \nThe conference will commence with presentations from RI representatives\, providing insights into their respective institutions. \nFollowing this\, the first panel will feature representatives from V4 Research Infrastructures and EOSC. Together\, they will explore examples of best practices in establishing research infrastructures\, personnel challenges (attraction\, retention\, and quality management)\, long-term sustainability considerations\, and data management and governance\, emphasizing the principles of Open and FAIR data. \nIn the afternoon\, the 2nd panel will take centre stage\, featuring speakers from Ministries\, Permanent Representations of V4 countries\, and a representative from the European Commission. This session will focus on the future trajectory of research infrastructures\, building upon earlier discussion. Topics will include the evolving role of V4 countries in RI initiatives\, changes since the adoption of various Council Conclusions\, and the exploration of Technology Infrastructures. Furthermore\, they will delve into future financial and legislative goals\, fostering a lively debate on potential enhancements for FP10.

SUMMARY:EOSC-ENTRUST kick-off meeting
DESCRIPTION:The objective of the EOSC-ENTRUST project is to create a European network of trusted research environments for sensitive data and to drive European interoperability by joint development of a common blueprint for federated data access and analysis.\nThis blueprint for interoperability is anchored in the EOSC Interoperability Framework spanning the four dimensions of Legal\, Organisational\, Technical and Semantic interoperability. \nEOSC-ENTRUST has identified four driver projects covering Genomics\, Clinical trials\, Social science\, and public-private partnerships to benchmark capabilities\, inform blueprint design and demonstrate secure data analysis using federated workflows. \nThe objectives of EOSC-ENTRUST are: \n\nCreate a European network of Trusted Research Environments\, linked to EOSC and EuroHPC\, to enable transnational collaborative research on sensitive or restricted data.\nTrusted Research Environment providers implement\, validate\, and promote their capabilities through a European framework using common standards and shared legal\, operational and technical language.\nNational funders and governments understand the network of TRE capabilities serving their needs\, and how TREs support their national priorities and their contributions to selected transnational programmes.\nThe European Network of Trusted Research Environments (ENTRUST) is embedded in the European Open Science Cloud and the European Data Spaces and fosters an ecosystem of public\, private and joint-venture providers of TRE services.\n\nThe starting date is 1 March 2024\, coordinated by ELIXIR/ European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) with a total budget of 4M.
