SUMMARY:National Tripartite Event: France
DESCRIPTION:France is deeply engaged in promoting European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) activities and looks forward to hosting the 3rd edition of its tripartite event in September 2024. This year\, the French National Institute for Research in Digital Science and Technology (INRIA) is responsible for the event’s organisation\, with Victoria Dominguez-Del-Angel as the main contact person. The implementation of EOSC is based on a long-term process of alignment and coordination pursued by the European Commission\, EOSC Association and diverse stakeholders of the French and European research landscape. \nThis tripartite event will provide an overview of current developments in French Open Science. SUMMARY:French data repositories and their use of semantics
DESCRIPTION:The FAIR National Roadshow series is visiting France on the 11th of September 2024!\nThis hybrid event will be hosted by INRAE\, Paris\, France. It will take place the day before the Tripartite EOSC event\, which will provide an overview of current developments in French Open Science. \nThe aim of this event is to present the work done in France on the national level. DESCRIPTION:On Tuesday 3 September 2024\, UK DARIAH Day will bring together researchers and practitioners with an interest in Digital Humanities to consider opportunities and challenges around research infrastructures in the UK\, showcase current tools and projects\, and build national and regional networks. SUMMARY:FOAM 2024: FAIR principles for Ontologies and Metadata in Knowledge Management
DESCRIPTION:FOAM is a new workshop merging the Workshop on Ontologies for FAIR and FAIR Ontologies (Onto4FAIR)\, the Conceptual Modeling\, Ontologies and Metadata Management for Findable\, Accessible\, Interoperable and Reusable (FAIR) Data (CMOMM4FAIR) and the FAIR Ontology Harmonization and TRUST Data Interoperability Workshop (FOHTI). \nThe main objectives of this workshop are: \n\nto bring together new methods for enabling FAIR research outputs (data\, software\, workflows\, ontologies\, mappings\, etc.) through ontologies and vocabularies\ndiscuss techniques\, metrics and guidelines to improve the FAIRness of ontologies and vocabularies\nto share experiences\, identify new challenges and opportunities applying FAIR for different communities\n\nFOAM will be an in-person event. \n\n\nTopics of interest\nMaking the resources produced by researchers fully reusable and understandable requires complex efforts. To address these issues\, the Findable\, Accessible\, Interoperable and Reusable (FAIR) principles have been developed to provide guidance on making resources more reusable and interoperable. These principles have gained increasing attention in a number of different domains and applications. On the one hand\, a key aspect is the ability to describe resources correctly and semantically\, in particular using ontologies. On the other hand\, ontologies themselves have to comply with the FAIR principles. \nThe workshop aims to bring together leaders from academia\, industry and user institutions to discuss the adoption of the FAIR principles and share real-world requirements\, challenges and experiences in their respective domains. In addition\, we aim to explore how the FAIR principles are supported by the use of ontologies that are ideally FAIR themselves\, and to discuss the challenges and perspectives in adopting the FAIR principles. \nThe topics of interest include\, but are not limited to\, the following: \n\nontologies\, schemas and vocabularies for FAIR data and metadata;\ndomain and cross-domain ontologies for FAIR research outputs (data\, software\, mappings\, workflows\, ontologies\, ML models\, etc.);\ntechniques\, methods and tools to increase the FAIRness of vocabularies and ontologies;\nFAIR ontology harmonisation\, mapping\, alignment\, merging and modularisation;\nbest practices on modeling FAIR research outputs;\nsemantic descriptions of FAIR digital objects;\nchallenges in FAIR research output management and modeling;\nnovel applications of the FAIR principles\, FAIRification process and use cases;\nmetrics for FAIRness assessment;\nprovenance in FAIR environments;\nFAIR principles and open science;\nFAIR principles and linked open data;\nApplication of the FAIR principles in scientific communities (life science\, digital humanities\, health\, smart cities\, etc.)\n\n\n\nSubmissions\nSubmissions can be made in the following categories: \n\nFull papers (10 – 12 pages\, including references)\nShort papers (6 – 9 pages\, including references)\nPosters (up to 5 pages\, including references)\n\n  \nSubmissions should be original work and follow the CEUR one-column template (Overleaf template\, CEUR author kit). However\, FOAM 2024 explicitly welcomes alternative and enhanced submission formats\, such as HTML submissions. Authors who are preparing such a submission should contact the workshop organizers in advance to make sure we can accommodate for them in the submission and review process. \nSubmissions should be managed through Easychair. At least one author of each accepted paper is expected to attend the workshop (in person). \nFOAM embraces the adoption of FAIR best practices. If your paper proposes a dataset\, has associated source code or proposes a new ontology or demo\, please make sure these resources conform with the FAIR Best practices from FOIS.

DESCRIPTION:Research infrastructures (RIs) play a critical role in the scientific enterprise. They are now an essential component for all scientific domains and not only allow to push the boundaries of existing knowledge and the production of breakthrough research but they also play a major role in structuring the research system through the development of networks\, of user communities and of rich ecosystems that bring together many research and innovation stakeholders. \nThis increasing role of RIs in the science system\, and the increasing complexity of RIs\, has led to a steady increase in their funding requirement: not only have RIs become a necessity in all scientific disciplines\, but the cost of individual RIs can reach billions or even tens of billion euros. DESCRIPTION:The “Minimum Viable Skills Profiles: Implementation using FAIR Signposting”  will take place on 2nd July 2024 from 15:00-16:00 CEST. Registration for the workshop is free but mandatory. \nThe Catalogue of Minimum Viable Skillset (MVS) Profiles describes key skills and competences for roles that enable researchers\, professionals\, and stakeholders to practice Open Science (OS) with the support of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC). Each MVS Profile relates the essential skills to the Open Science (OS) practices\, activities\, and outcomes that may typically be expected of the role concerned. \nOne of the ways to ensure increased FAIRness of the MVS Catalogue has been to follow the recommendations on implementing FAIR Signposting\, a lightweight yet powerful approach to increase the FAIRness of scholarly objects. The main idea of the approach is to optimise the MVS Catalogue landing page for use by machine agents that navigate the scholarly web and describe the metadata related to the profiles in a standards-based way. In this way machines learn about the persistent identifier of the MVS Catalogue\, where and what its content is\, where metadata that describes it is\, etc. \nThis webinar aims to provide an overview of the Catalogue of MVS profiles developed within Skills4EOSC\, and how the project implemented the FAIR Signposting approach developed by FAIR IMPACT so that they can be more easily read and understood by automated agents. The workshop is a great venue to discuss and think about how one can take a similar approach to take advantage of the MVS profiles and/or describe and make available other types of work and materials. DESCRIPTION:The “FAIR Implementation Workshop – Where do I start with FAIRification of sensitive data?” will take place on 25th June at 14:00-15:15. \nSensitive data is ‘information that is regulated by law due to possible risk for plants\, animals\, individuals and/or communities and for public and private organisations’ (David et al\, 2020). It is with these kinds of data in mind that the phrase “as open as possible and as closed as necessary” is now presented as part of the ‘Accessible’ principle of FAIR. There are many different types of sensitive data\, and they exist in relation to many different contexts and disciplinary approaches. Perhaps most familiar to many will be personal data – for example names collected during a survey or interview –  but there is also commercially sensitive information\, data relating to the military or national security\, and data about vulnerable species\, and more. \nThis workshop will present a general overview of data sensitivity in relation to sharing and reuse; two presentations on aspects of sensitive data in different research areas; a focus on Persistent Identifiers and data handling of sensitive data; and an opportunity to join in the discussion with the presenters and with each other. \nConfirm your registration below. SUMMARY:2024 Galaxy Community Conference (GCC2024)
DESCRIPTION:The general meeting portion of GCC2024 consist of a series of peer-reviewed talks\, posters\, demos\, training sessions\, Birds-of-a-Feather meetups\, and sponsor talks. \nThe registration fee includes admission to the meeting events\, snacks and drinks during the morning/afternoon break\, and lunch for each day. \nTuesday evening will be the official conference dinner\, which needs to be purchased along with the registration. If you’d like to purchase additional dinner tickets for your travel companion(s) you can do so at the time of registration. \nPlease note that all prices are listed in Euros (EUR) and exclude the mandatory VAT (21%). When paying for the registration\, you can use a credit card or do a bank transfer. You can also register and request the payment be processed afterwards by someone else\, such as your department administrator. DESCRIPTION:The 2024 edition of the “Coordination meeting of EOSC-related projects funded under Horizon Europe” will take place on 20-21 June in Brussels.\nAs in previous editions\, the meeting will bring together representatives of project consortia\, the European Commission\, the Research Executive Agency and the EOSC Association. \nThe main objectives of the meeting have been identified by the EC as follows: \n\nTo deepen the collaboration between the consortia involved in EOSC-related projects funded under Horizon Europe\, the EOSC Association and the EC in the context of implementing the EOSC European Partnership and its Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA).\nTo provide an update of the contributions made by projects consortia\, the EOSC-A and the EC towards achieving the strategic and operational objectives of the SRIA.\nTo discuss the challenges and next steps for the implementation of EOSC as fully operational\, federated infrastructure that enables the sharing of FAIR data and services across borders and disciplines.\n\nFor reference\, you can find here the report for the 2023 coordination meeting.

DESCRIPTION:The EOSC Association will hold two webinars in June 2024 to explain the purpose of the Questionnaire for parties interested in contributing to the build-up phase of the EOSC Federation and provide guidance on how to complete it. Register to attend the first webinar on Wednesday\, 19 June 2024 between 15:00-16:00 CEST. \nThe Tripartite Governance of EOSC launched the questionnaire to gauge the scale and scope of general interest and readiness for the build-up phase of the EOSC Federation. Interested parties are invited to reply to the questionnaire as the first step in their eligibility to contribute to a testbed of potential EOSC Nodes representing the different stakeholders involved in the research communities of Europe. An overview of the results of the questionnaire will be shared with respondents and will be used to plan the next steps in the building of the EOSC Federation.

DESCRIPTION:Building on the topic of last year’s Theme Call\, the DARIAH Annual Event 2024 will be dedicated to the topic of Workflows: Digital Methods for Reproducible Research Practices in the Arts and Humanities. We are looking for contributions that explore\, assess\, analyse and embody the challenges of designing\, implementing\, documenting and sharing digitally-enabled workflows in the context of arts and humanities research from a technical\, methodological\, infrastructural and conceptual point of view. \nThe Annual Event will be held in person in Lisbon\, Portugal\, June 18-21. The event will be hosted by NOVA FCSH\, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa\, at Avenida de Berna campus of NOVA FCSH. June 18th will be a day for DARIAH internal meetings\, followed by the conference on June 19th to June 21st. Accepted submissions are expected to be presented in-person. \n\n\n\n\nDARIAH is a European Research Infrastructure for the Humanities and Arts. Its mission is to empower scholarly communities with digital methods to create\, connect and share knowledge about culture and society. \n\n\n\n\nThe DARIAH Annual Event offers the DARIAH community and humanities scholars in general the possibility to present results and new ideas; to meet and network. Participation in the Annual Event is free of charge\, but registration is required. Please make sure you register on time as the registration will be closing on June 4th.

SUMMARY:New Repositories for New Biodiversity Research
DESCRIPTION:Recent technology-driven advances in biodiversity research have created a need for more\, new types of FAIR repositories. In this meetup\, we discuss two of these. Firstly\, the broad and expanding application of AI-based methods in image/sound/text/sequence classification has created a need for repositories for exchanging pre-trained models and their training data. Secondly\, the advent of massively parallel DNA sequencing techniques applied to the environment has shown a large diversity of sequence variants\, whose incremental aggregation in a central repository would enable a more fine-grained assessment of the presence and abundance of distinct haplotypes in the natural environment and in medical settings. In this event\, we will introduce the current research practices and challenges and discuss how the community can proceed in light of these developments. \nThis virtual workshop will take place from 11:00-12:00 CEST on June 13 2024.
