DESCRIPTION:Software created to address the needs of researchers is playing an increasingly important role in many scientific domains\, in industry and is having a broader impact. As a result researchers and engineers seek to improve their research software’s quality\, learn new skills and also seek recognition for their work. \nThe goal of this event is to share experience across continents on the challenges faced in creating research software and the improving its quality\, and to foster both knowledge-sharing and collaboration. \nThe EVERSE project is pooling the knowledge of best practices for research software quality\, initially targeting diverse research communities initially in Europe.  It seeks to identify the tools\, metrics and training available in related topics.  Its target is to  work towards having it valued as a first-level contribution to research. \nOrganised by the EVERSE project\, the University of Cape Town’s e-Research Center and the Science for Africa Foundation.

SUMMARY:FOR2026 Conference: The Future of Open Research: Reliable\, Responsible\, Equitable
DESCRIPTION:The future of open research is uncertain. On the one hand\, decades of activism and institutional support have placed the value and significance of intelligent strategies and formats for open research (and its dissemination) beyond doubt. Openness is central to the development of trustworthy\, accountable\, collaborative\, and socially engaged knowledge. On the other hand\, open research measures need to be tailored to diverse research conditions around the globe and across domains\, which in turn requires substantial investment\, local engagement\, responsiveness to the ethical and social dimensions of inquiry\, and attention to diversity\, equity\, and inclusion. \nWhile the implementation of open science principles is certainly facilitated by ever more accessible digital technologies and training programmes\, for many researchers around the world\, acquiring the expertise and skills to engage in open research practices remains elusive. Exposure to open research initiatives often happens as an end-user rather than as an active contributor. This is because well-resourced environments produce the tools\, set the research goals\, define the standards and methods\, which leads to them benefiting disproportionally from the opportunities. This makes even the best-intentioned projects into opportunities for the best-resourced environments (which are often in charge of producing open science tools) to impose their own understanding of research goals\, standards\, and methods on everybody else. Therefore\, without domain- and location-specific input\, the risk is that open research amplifies existing inequities and discrimination in the production\, use\, and evaluation of knowledge\, thereby inflicting damage to the research system instead of the promised improvements. And this is not to mention the ongoing debates over how politically unpalatable open science may be\, the extent to which open research has been appropriated by commercial entities such as large publishing companies and digital platforms\, the fraught intersection between open science and artificial intelligence\, and the ongoing difficulties in supporting and maintaining open research activities and tools in the long term. \nThis conference brings together scholars\, activists\, and policymakers to consider this challenging landscape and discuss the future of open research. Our goal is to facilitate the development of open research practices explicitly geared to serve the public interest\, which involves interrogating what may constitute that ‘public interest’ to different audiences and in different locations around the world. A central element for our discussions will be the development of a Munich Manifesto for Equitable Open Research\, detailing ways to utilise open research to foster reliable\, responsible\, and equitable forms of inquiry. A draft text of the manifesto will be circulated two weeks before the conference to all participants\, and one session of the conference will be dedicated to discussing and finalising the declaration and its possible signatories. \nWe call for contributions by researchers across all fields of knowledge\, including the arts and humanities\, policy-makers interested in research and development\, representatives of scholarly and commercial institutions involved in research\, and civil society associations engaged in knowledge production.

DESCRIPTION:The Health Data Research Hub (HDRH) at the Medical University of Graz provides a secure data environment and standardized interfaces that form the foundation for data excellence across the entire research data lifecycle—from study planning and the creation of data management plans to long-term storage and the secure reuse of data in analytical environments. \nThis presentation will focus on OMERO\, an open-source platform developed by the Open Microscopy Environment (OME) for the centralized storage\, management\, visualization\, and analysis of microscopy and bioimaging data\, including associated metadata. Its client–server architecture enables location-independent access via web and desktop clients\, while an access-controlled infrastructure ensures secure data management and distribution. \nBy automatically capturing microscope metadata\, OMERO supports transparent and reproducible research in accordance with the FAIR principles. In addition\, it offers compatibility with numerous bioimaging file formats\, as well as APIs and plugins that enable high interoperability. \nThe presentation will conclude with a short live demonstration of OMERO and selected workflows.

DESCRIPTION:Open Science is an integral part of today’s research. It encompasses a wide range of practices and outputs across all stages of the research lifecycle. For instance\, researchers share their publications via repositories\, publish in Open Access journals\, and disseminate early findings through preprints. They make their data FAIR\, preregister their research protocols\, and engage the public through Citizen Science initiatives. \nChallenges include selecting the most appropriate channel for publishing research\, considering the economic implications of this choice\, as well as managing the learning curve and time investment required to implement certain Open Science principles. At the same time\, researchers must navigate various considerations\, including GDPR compliance\, intellectual property rights\, and research security. KU Leuven is committed to Open Science\, guided by the principle: “as open as possible\, as closed as necessary.” \nThe Open Science Day is an opportunity for researchers of the KU Leuven Association to take part in this discussion\, to showcase their own Open Science efforts\, to shed a light on difficulties they might encounter\, to share experiences and solutions.

DESCRIPTION:The EOSC United and EOSC Gravity projects will hold a joint General Assembly meeting on Wednesday\, 27 May 2026 in Brussels. This full-day\, in-person meeting will bring together partners from both projects to review progress to date\, discuss key achievements\, and align on strategic priorities. The programme will conclude with a networking dinner\, offering participants an opportunity to connect and exchange insights in an informal setting. \n\nRegistration\nRegistration for the General Assembly meeting is now open. Representatives of partner organisations from the EOSC United and EOSC Gravity projects are invited to register by 07 May 2026. \n\nVenue\nThe meeting will take place at the Renaissance Brussels Hotel\, located in the European Quarter\, close to the city centre. \n\nAccommodation\nParticipants are kindly requested to arrange their own travel and accommodation. \nParticipants can benefit from special hotel rates at the Radisson RED Brussels situated just a few metres from the event venue. DESCRIPTION:The 13th General Assembly meeting of the EOSC Association will be held as an in-person\, lunch-to-lunch meeting on 28-29 May 2026 in Brussels\, Belgium. Among other items\, Members will vote on the position paper outlining the preferred governance and funding model for EOSC post-2027\, which is currently being co-created with the membership through stakeholder consultations. \n\nRegistration\nRegistration for EOSC-A GA#13 is now open! To attend the meeting\, fill in the registration form by Thursday\, 07 May 2026.  \n\nVenue\nThe venue of the EOSC Association’s 13th General Assembly will be the Renaissance Brussels Hotel\, situated near the city centre in the European quarter. \n\nAccommodation\nParticipants are required to book their accommodation individually. They may benefit from preferential accommodation rates at the following hotels: \nRenaissance Brussels Hotel\nThe preferential room rate at the Renaissance Brussels Hotel\, the venue hosting EOSC-A General Assembly #13\, is €185 per night for the nights of 27–28 May 2026. The rate includes VAT\, breakfast\, and Wi-Fi. A city tax of EUR 5.60 per night is excluded. Rooms must be booked via this reservation link. Rates for additional nights outside this period may differ and must be booked separately\, or participants should contact the hotel directly to add them to the same reservation. \nTo benefit from the preferential accommodation rate\, we recommend booking your room by 04 March 2026 (16:00 CET). This is the first deadline\, after which 50% of the reserved rooms will be released and availability may become limited. The final deadline to book a room at the preferential date is 26 March 2026. After this date\, rooms and special rates cannot be guaranteed. \nThe individual cancellation policy allows free cancellation up to seven working days prior to arrival. DESCRIPTION:The Research Data Alliance (RDA) 27th Plenary Meeting (P27) will take place at The Kia Oval\, London\, United Kingdom\, from 6th to 8th October 2026 as an in-person event. This format marks a significant shift from recent practice and may prevent some community members from participating- a decision we have not taken lightly. \nSince 2020\, RDA plenary meetings have been either fully virtual or hybrid\, ensuring broad accessibility during and beyond the pandemic. P27 represents a deliberate pilot of a new approach: pairing an in-person plenary in the second half of each year with a fully virtual plenary in the first half. This model aims to balance the distinct benefits of both formats whilst ensuring equitable opportunities for engagement throughout the year. \n

The goal is to grow a broader\, more diverse\, more global Persistent Identifier community\, from first-timers to infrastructure leaders. \nThe theme this year is Keeping Knowledge Connected\, and the Call for Proposals is open now through March 22. Proposals are welcome from all PID enthusiasts\, wherever you are on your PID journey – and in a range of session formats\, including short talks\, panels\, workshops\, “birds of a feather” sessions\, interactive presentations\, lightning talks\, and posters. Please note that you must be able to deliver your presentation in person. \nIf you have an idea that doesn’t fit neatly into one of these formats\, we’d still love to hear about it. We may even be able to connect you with other interested groups with whom you share a synergy and potential for a successful session. \nHow to submit your proposal \nPlease see our brief writing guide for proposals for ideas on how to pitch your session.
