SUMMARY:CESSDA 50
DESCRIPTION:Digital transformation\, open science\, and artificial intelligence are shaping how research is carried out and its connection with society. From climate change\, inequality\, to disinformation – as social challenges grow more urgent and complex\, the need for trustworthy\, interoperable\, and policy-relevant social science data has never been greater. In this evolving landscape\, social science data archives play a critical role in maximising the benefits of research data while mitigating potential risks\, under the principle of “as open as possible and as closed as necessary”. \nIn 2026\, CESSDA\, the Consortium of European Social Science Data Archives\, celebrates its 50th anniversary. This conference marks its five decades of collaboration\, innovation\, and service to the European social science research community. It brings together its Service Providers and partners\, as well as researchers\, open science and data experts\, policy actors\, funding partners\, and networks from across Europe and beyond to reflect on its legacy and chart a shared vision for the future. \nThe four-day conference programme is anchored in CESSDA’s strategic pillars (2023–2027) of Data\, People\, and Landscape. The conference is an opportunity for scientific and policy voices to ask bold questions\, strengthen synergies\, and set the course for a future-ready European Research Area. \nThe Objectives of the Conference\nThe conference marks the 50th anniversary of CESSDA. It celebrates its impact on open science and open data in the European Research Area and beyond. It brings together CESSDA Service Providers\, researchers\, policy actors\, partner organisations\, and international networks to share knowledge\, showcase achievements\, and address the evolving landscape of research and innovation. \n  \nOn Wednesday June 17\, EOSC Association President\, Klaus Tochtermann and Michael Arentoft of the European Commission shall participate in a panel discussion on the importance of having strategic partnerships and policy alignment to build an inclusive and competitive European Research Area.

SUMMARY:Summer School for Data Stewards 2026
DESCRIPTION:The Summer School for Data Stewards is a three-day intensive programme focused on developing skills in research data management in line with FAIR principles. \nThe programme will guide participants through the full data workflow – from organisation and documentation to practical use. It will focus on creating and managing data management plans using the Data Stewardship Wizard\, illustrated with practical examples from the national research data infrastructure. We will also show when and how Jupyter Notebooks can help streamline data work\, supporting both analysis and documentation. \nThe programme will include discussion sessions\, providing space for participants to share practical experiences. Attention will also be given to communication skills\, which are essential for data stewards in everyday collaboration. The programme will be enriched by an international guest\, Matthias Täschner from Leipzig University\, whose work and approach we introduced in a recent interview. \nThe Summer School is intended for both project and institutional data stewards. On the second morning\, the programme will be divided into two parallel tracks according to focus areas\, allowing participants to choose the option that best suits their interests. \nThe language of instruction will be adapted to the composition of participants. \nAll participants will receive a certificate of completion. \nThe workshop recordings from the Summer School and the presentations will be available. The event will not be streamed (it will not be possible to attend online). \nThe Summer School has a capacity of 35 participants. If you are considering registering multiple participants from the same institution\, please take this into account. \nOrganisational Information: \n\nMeals and accommodation will be provided for registered participants. Any accommodation required on the day before the programme is the responsibility of the participant.\nTravel expenses must be covered individually by participants.\nThe event is funded by the IPS EOSC-CZ project.
