National CRIS system
Information systems with the generic name CRIS (Current Research Information Systems) have been being built in Europe for several decades. For today, the expansion of the content of the CRIS system to the areas of financial resources for research, information on patents and innovations, exploitation of research results, evaluation of research work, etc. is characteristic. The latest trends are supplementing databases with descriptions of research results, links with other (bibliographic) databases and multimedia databases. An important aspect of the development of the CRIS system is their transfer to the Internet, which essentially contributes to the use and also the volume of data, because data providers are more motivated to cooperate. One of the generally accepted recommendations is CERIF (Common European Research Information Format), which prescribes the structure of data on research projects, and includes recommendations in relation to research organizations, departments and researchers. In accordance with the recommendations of CERIF, the web application E-CRIS was developed, which the Institute of Information Sciences in Maribor (IZUM) offered free of charge to users of COBISS applications, so that researchers’ records could be established within the national library and information systems in the COBISS.Net network.
